At about the 6:20 mark they pull up the top menu and the Aura H2O shows brightness (light) at 0 and the Aura 6" at 1. If that's the case there appears to be a huge difference in the "base" whiteness, but I'd like to see what the difference is with the light on at an appropriate level.

Putting the HD &H2O side by side for comparison would have made too much sense and therefore was entirely out of the question. Seriously, I can only speculate why that wouldn't be the first thing they would want to do.

OK thanks. Very encouraging.
Do they still have the W back or is it flat now. I saw it briefly in another video but hard to tell. |

I think it's flat in the middle but tapered in at the sides, like the back of the 6inch Aura

Looking to buy a new eBook reader.
Which one would you personally choose between Paperwhite 2 and Kobo H2O? I mostly read my own epub books and I don't care much about either ecosystem. |

Either device can use Coolreader or Koreader to allow supporting more formats. On the Kobo, it's a relatively simple install using any of the multiple techniques. On the Kindle, installation is a bit more complex with jailbreaking being the first step. Regards, David |

It does not matter if the book is in ePub or mobi format as Calibre can easily convert between the two.
O sold my Kindle P1 today and looking to buy Kobo H20 because of the following reasons: 1. Better e-ink screen + resolution 2. Native support for ePub is a plus 3. Support for Instapaper 4. Ability to use Toronto Public Library to borrow books I haven't been reading books for sometime now but I want to get back into reading a lot of books. I do a lot of highlighting and I hope that Kobo software allows for easy export of my highlights. |

Highlighting / Annotations can be exported. There is some support in davidfor's Kobo Utilities plugin for calibre to handle them.

There is always choice. In this case, does one spend a single night sleeping while calibre converts a ton of books to Kindle format? or does one choose the Kobo? There are plenty of reasons to choose a Kobo, and likewise for a Kindle. Can we please avoid saying stupid things like "epub? no choice but a Kobo". It would be acceptable if you mentioned the cost of doing so, for example in terms of disk space required. People come here to be informed, not to have more FUD shoveled down their throat. |

Wow, that is interesting! Having just bought a Kobo MINI, I've been thinking a lot about the fact that the device is so close to perfect that I can foresee no possible reason to "upgrade". A screen light would be nice, but that is what lamps are for - a technological innovation I'm just now reacquainting myself with having switched from a glowing tablet. Print quality on an e-ink screen is so good that I certainly couldn't be enticed to upgrade for a higher resolution (I can't tell there is any pixelation so any further improvement would be impossible to see, at least without a magnifying glass).
Being water-proof, however is an actual necessary fix to a glaring design flaw effecting nearly all tablets/phones/ereaders - and I've never understood why. Any touch-screen device which lacks an SD slot could have been made entirely waterproof right off the bat. There's no need for an opening in the case if things were designed properly (like an apple type magnetic connector for charging rather than this horrible micro-usb thing everything is equipped with). I see no reason why any tablet or touch-screen phone isn't completely sealed and waterproof, but it is the only glaring flaw in my current reader which might entice me to buy a replacement in order to have it fixed. Of course, after that, what possible "upgrade" path could be left? |

And as much as my wife loved to tell that story, she can't any more. I just look at her and she remembers that I've seen her do exactly the same thing ![]() But, yes, I can see the Aura H2O going into the kitchen with me. |

The problem with most GoodEreader reviews is they are full of fluff and not what should actually be reviewed like the new Carta screen or the frontlight. We already know the firmware is basically the same since it is the same.
