I actually like the back plate ones better for reading in bed. I am thinking that covers will eventually be discounted eventually as they are n stock in many places. So far I am very pleased with my purchases from factory direct |

Yeah. And besides you can get alternative covers which are stylish and cheap easily online.
Already purchased the T3. Checking daily to see when will they ship it. |

WiFi does use more battery true. But you can turn it off and not have it using any battery. It's there if you want and off if you don't want.

I just want to be able to read and not have a lot of other bells & whistles.

I'm like readerlover and just want to use it to read. I never purchase books from the reader, I prefer to do all purchases from my PC only and keep all books together in my Calibre Library once purchased and sideload all books. So I could care less about having wifi or extra games. But it's rare to find a reader now without those bells and whistles. Just turn the wifi off, you have that option on all readers, so it's never a battery drain.
I do love the front light on readers now though, which is why I finally got a Kobo Glo and there's no real extra battery drain because of the light, and I leave it on always. |

You can go on Amazon and look up Sony PRS-300 and it's under $100!

I've gotten used 350s (which I prefer over the 300s) for $35 used and in near pristine condition. They're out there if you look for them. But I love the convenience of the front light, which means I no longer need to carry either the bigger Sony case with light, or an extra light, along with an extra battery. That got old fast, so the front light is the only reason I stopped using the Sony 350s.

Just got my PRS-T3 from FactoryDirect.ca. It is the PRS-T3S version (backplate instead of cover) even though it doesn't (or didn't when I bought it) say it on the website.
Gonna try it for a while and compare it to the Kobo Aura I bought the other day. I've been using it since I got it and sometimes it's uncomfortable the lack of physical buttons for page changing. And the bottom of the Aura is as narrow as all the other sides so it's hard to grip it firmly without touching the screen and having the page turn by accident. But as they said above, the front light is amazing. I still prefer to read with light from around me (lamps, etc), but sometimes it's too dim to be comfortable and lighting up the screen just a little makes it perfect to read. I have big hopes for the T3 though and will test it thoroughly. |

The T3 itself is great; as its smaller, has no full page refresh and has a whiter background and higher res than my T2. This makes for good contrast. But when I had to decide whether to give the T2 or T3 away as a gift, I kept the old T2. Why, because that one is hacked. With Cool Reader and the additional fonts I installed, I could get better fonts than Amasis, and I could get the font much darker, with better line spacing. All that made for a superior reading experience for my tired old eyes. BTW, "Bargain hunters" who wait for prices to go down on these things will likely find themselves missing out completely; as stocks are limited all around, getting more so and prices are bouncing all over the place. Example: I got my T3 when it was $49.99. But then it went to $69.99, then it went to $59.99, and now its sold out. So this is the guy who waits... ![]() ![]() |

As for what you commented on the T2 I was tempted to buy that one since the T3 hasn't (and for what I read on this forum, probably won't) been hacked, but I couldn't find it for a decent price. Still I spent many hours yesterday playing with the T3 and I have to say it's everything I expected so far (my previous one is a PRS-505). |

I started with a used Nook, bought a second one for my wife, then upgraded(?) to two Sony PRST2 units. I have been trying to repair a friends Kobo wireless and will stick with the Sony for as long as they last.

I definitely agree. After that series came out everything they made was horrible! |

That was my first reader!!! It was blue, and when the prs-350 came out it was almost like a dumbed down version of the 505 (imo)
