eInk color tech would need to vastly improve first.

I think I like my name better - The Ash!
It came at the right time for me, but I don't think I'll be buying as of right now. Gonna do a little more research, but I'm leaning to waiting until Samsung announces the Note 4 and the S5 F (I think was the name, or was it Prime). Oh well. The "Fire" has a big mountain to climb. |

I like Amazon....I like my Prime subscription....I like my Fire HDX but I really don't see this phone doing well.
The phone world consists of android and apple (blackberry and windows are small palyers). Since this won't run Android apps (gmail!) and its only on one carrier, I just don't think it will go anywhere. On top of that, while the tech sounds neat, it also needs to be implemented very well to be "not frustrating". Samsung's tilt to scroll and pause when my eyes look away, etc were all gimmicks that most users turned off to save battery. And if this tech comes to the next generation of Fire tablets, that will satisfy those that want to try it without replacing their android phone. |

Amazon would not have bought Liquavista and dumped money into it if they expected full color eink anytime soon. They *know* exactly what eink is working on and that is not on the horizon. What the Fire phone has is a bright screen and circular polarization filters to make it better in sunlight than if it didn't. Better does not necessarilly mean good, though. The Fire Phone will be released on July 25, 2014, for ATT users. I have an ATT Samsung Galaxy s5 which has better features than the Fire Phone.
However, on July 25 I will call ATT to see if I could trade in my 2 year contract for the s5 and replace it with the Fire Phone. Even, if they say I could, I'll think about it for a while. Amazon should offer a buy out from other phones if they want to sell this one. Otherwise, most folks will be stuck in other contracts. In 2 years I will definitely buy the Fire Phone. |

Within two years Apple would have released the iPhone 6 along with other better looking Android devices.
Personally I am underwhelm with this phone. - This phone is launched in the U.S., but nothing for Canada. - All the technology in this phone has been implemented in other smartphones before (E.g. iPhone 5S). |

Would love to see Dynamic Perspective in their next gen Fire tablet for use with games. It would be a much better platform than a tiny phone screen.
Don't care about Firefly. A phone is a better platform for that feature. |

I'd like to try one to see how well the technology works but I wouldn't really be interested in buying one (even if it was available in Canada). I'm more impressed with it then I thought I would be but it's a tough market to break into and an easy one to break out of.
So who has pre-ordered one and is going to give us the first hands on review? I'm not convinced the tilt to scroll will work well for reading. I'd fall asleep and lose my place. |

I like Amazon. I have Prime. I like AT&T. I also like my windows phone (Nokia 520) and my no contract $25 a month plan. No way would I get a Fire phone, because of the plan you have to sign up for. (No, I don't have an extra $649 lying around). I would get Nexus 5 or a Moto G before I'd get the Fire Phone.

Camera makers routinely rate the f-stop numbers on lenses at the equivalent value for a full frame camera. Thus an M4/3 camera with what Panasonic or Olympus claims to be a f/2.8 lens will perform more like a f/5.6 because Panasonic and Olympus both fail to mention they are using full frame equivalents that are not rescaled for the much smaller M4/3 sensor. It is blatant, false advertising. If Amazon claims this phone has an f/2.0 aperture lens they are lying. It might perform slightly better than other phones in low light, but not much and mostly it will be because of software within the phone that is aggressively post processing the image. It damn sure isn't because that tiny aperture lets in gobs of light--it doesn't, it can't. To truly perform well in low light the phone would have to have a huge lens and it certainly wouldn't fit in your pocket if it did.

1st, I hate AT&T with all my heart, lol ...
And I'm sorry, I don't see any benefit of this to Prime customers. The phone is like a virtual portal to Amazon, which is not a big deal and something we should expect, but as an end user, I don't see any useful thing from it. |

My Canon 2.0 lens is relatively big and I can't believe this little thing can get the same aperture unless there is some missing hardware or software element not mentioned here. But I still want a real DSLR for my vacation pictures. I haven't found a phone that beats my Canon. |

Amazon is definitely going for high margins with this phone.
People expected low pricing on the Fire TV and it didn't happen. People expected low pricing on the Fire Phone and it didn't happen. Has Amazon done an about face and started going after profits on hardware sales? ![]() |
