"Having same issue" in the 136th post of a thread is not descriptive enough. Include your model number (or at least use our nicknames) - See: https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kindle_Serial_Numbers for help with that. Include what firmware version you are currently running. Include each thing you have done and what was the result of each (do not just say: did not work - describe the result). Last edited by knc1; 03-17-2016 at 08:33 AM. |

Sorry, I didn't mean to cause any confusion. I was intending to ask catharsys which hotfix he's reffering to in the Update section at the end of his post.
When I say I'm having the same issue I mean that I have installed KUAL and the latest development key package from the mkk but I am still receiving a "This device is not authorised as test kindle by the developer of this item. Please contact the developer." message when I try to launch KUAL. Version 4.1.1(1813030025) I've got the K4-nt model with the jailbreak and shell access. Quote:

Not the same, you have a different device and different firmware. Lab-126 messed up Active Content support in some firmware versions. Try again after installing the current K4 firmware posted by Amazon. |

@crinkelite: Just reinstall MKK (the thing in this very thread), and *restart* your device aferwards.
The hotfix only concerns FW 5.x devices. |

I don't know if this is relevant but I received the following message from amazon.com immediately after applying the jailbreak a few days ago. Quote:

Did you make any changes to the device's registration?

Someone was using it previously but the wifi stopped working so they gave it to me. I eventually got it working and was able to do a factory reset.
There has been no account registered since the factory reset. |

Then go to the 'device info' in the 'settings' and see if the registration shown there is the same. The message you quoted is generated on the Kindle when the developer keys (which is what MKK contains) is erased. And it may very well be **NOT** because of the jailbreak, but because it was able to connect to Amazon for the first time since you received it (and fixed the WiFi) - Which was when it would have "discovered" that the person who gave it to you had un-registered it from their account. Which of course would have erased the developer's keys (and MKK and generated the message). So what else have you not told us? Like: What did you do to get the wifi working? In what way was it not working? = = = = = Please, help us, help you (without any "20 questions" games) - https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=272087 Last edited by knc1; 03-18-2016 at 09:30 AM. |

when I look under "settings" > "Device Info" I get the mac address, the serial number and a "Network Capability" flag which says "Wi-Fi" Quote:
It's possible that they unregistered the older kindle but unless this step is explicitly requested by amazon, it's unlikely that they would. Quote:
The "Settings" > "Wi-Fi Networks" flag was showing "Available Wi-Fi Networks(0) This was despite being in range of an AP. When I attempted to do a "Settings" > "menu" > "Reset to Factory Defaults" the kindle would not respond. I found a work around in this amazon forum post http://www.amazon.co.uk/forum/kindle...Tx8EOG0USADUPW User Jack Savage shows that the device can be reset by setting a password and inputting "resetmykindle" at the login After this, the Wi-Fi began functioning correctly. So you had to wipe out the contents of /var/local (which had a corrupted wifi config file).
That, and the fact of its age, makes the reliability of the flash storage questionable (/var/local is a journaled filesystem, they are hard to break). So now start over: Open an Amazon account (you can fake most of the information requested). Register it (you will need that to be able to use the wifi after the next time it "calls home"). When that is done - Re-install the jailbreak Re-install everything else that you want. Last edited by knc1; 03-19-2016 at 02:59 PM. |

Alright. After not updating my kindle or following the jailbreaking community for quite awhile (about 2 years), I decided to manually update my Kindle PW using the USB cable yesterday. It updated fine, but now when I try to open Collections Manager, it says "Kindlet Jailbreak Required".
My understanding is that the Mobileread Kindlet Kit is what I want. However, after I copy the Update_mkk-20141129-k5-ALL_install.bin onto my Kindle, the "Update Your Kindle" remains grayed out, even after I've removed the USB cable and restarted it using the menu. When I look at my Device Info, it says my firmware version is 5.6.1.1 (2689890035). Am I supposed to be using a different file, or will this not work with my Kindle? Apologies if this is a simple question, I've looked through the previous pages and didn't see my answer. |

Take the first 4 (or 6) characters of your serial number and look it up in this chart: https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kindle_Serial_Numbers The update_*.bin file is disappearing because it isn't for your model Kindle (the packages are all 'model locked'). Hint: It is a PW-1 not a K5 You probably should update your info block in the control panel to show the correct model nickname (it will help us, and might even remind you ![]() Last edited by knc1; 03-22-2016 at 10:10 PM. |
