Since it's clearly a continuation of the same rumour, and the thread posts don't overlap in time, DONE.

Actually, if we're talking about the Techcrunch article, I can at least confirm that they at least didn't pull the hardware specs completely out of their ass. We've known for quite a while (as far back as when the K4 was released, IIRC) that Amazon was testing prototypes with ambient light sensors, proximity sensors and/or weird haptic stuff, and different screens. The codename mentioned in that article (icewine) is also genuine.
A very minor amount of digging into a firmware image will tell you that much. |

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. -Albert Einstein The point is not whether the rumor is clear or not but rather the manner in which reminders of such facts are demonstrated. As a leader here, your actions could be tempered with a little more kindness. It does matter. I do appreciate your intentions in replying to stop the spread of ignorance but wish you would have a bit more tact in communicated undertone of said replies. 'How' is just as important as 'what.' Since the title of this thread has changed there will still be people who miss the point. If something is unsubstantiated it will not stand up to scrutiny. That said, imagination or conceptualization can be valuable processes in discussing what could be (but which we know currently isn't). The difference is in knowing what refers to reality and what merely suggests it. |

Back on the topic of the PW3 (which doesn't yet exist as of time this was posted)...
I recently upgraded from my 7 year old Sony Reader PRS-505 w/customized firmware to a Paperwhite 2. The PW2 has the superior interface, screen and light. Pretty much perfect right now (after jailbreaking/customizing of course). The PW3 would likely not be anything more than incremental in terms of hardware and the software might be backported as Amazon is apt to do (PW1 got the PW2 features in a recent update). So I'll likely be happy with what I have but still like to see the industry innovate in terms of features as well as refinements and bug fixes, etc. |

I wonder, though, with e-ink readers if we've pretty much maxed-out on specs. A 300dpi (or Kobo Aura equivalent) would be nice, as it's easier for me to read. But really, what else can Amazon or anyone do other than upgrade software and implement incremental hardware improvements? At this point, a basic e-reader is probably everything it's ever going to be. |

Headline, Nanny State reaches mobileread.com!
I've followed this thread from the start and enjoyed the ideas and (obvious) speculation. I'm a very ordinary punter and have not been mislead or felt "duped". It's been fun and I hope it continues. Amanda |

I don't care what Amazon do for the next kindle all I want is an option to turn off those pesky annoying pop up messages when I add sideloaded books into a collection, two messages for every book!

All the releases quoted above are pretty old. In recent years, for the Kindle Touch, original Kindle Paperwhite, and most recently the Paperwhite 2, announcements have been made around September/October, presumably timed to maximize Christmas sales. The recent PW launches have been combined with simultaneous launches of Kindle Fire tablets.

Okay guys.
1 The purpose of this thread is to discuss rumors. Not to fight. Not to play "Let's gang up on Harry T." 2 I agree with whoever complained about Harry T chewing us out. Although he's just doing his job. And if anyone was going to read this thread and come away with the wrong idea, they won't any more. 3 How about we discuss this like mature adults (minus the fighting?) The purpose was to discuss rumors. So no more fighting, K? (I tried to be nice, so no angry replies, plz.) |
