in some of my epub-files no more pictures are displayed since 2.6.1

i am not sure, but is the lowest light-level a bit darker than it was in 2.5.2?

I happen to agree that on the Aura, 2.6.1 has just the amount of white space I'd like to see for the top margin. Helen used the exact word I had in mind, 'balanced.' It looks balanced on the page, and to me, on 2.5.1, it did not, and it bugged me. I prefer not to have the book title on all the pages, but it didn't bother me a whole lot.

However, many users feel exactly the opposite. Given that a lot of us have different UI items that are very important to us, Kobo ought to listen up and make these options user-configurable. I worked in software for a lot of years, this should be a few days worth of work for an excellent programmer, and a couple of weeks in QA, yet I see this orphan/widow issue, for example, has been dragging on forever. Why not just put a resource on it for a week or two? It's baffling, given how little it would take to fix it, and how much better and more consistent books would look on a page.

Oh great, another firmware update to avoid. I was looking forward to trying out the new homepage, having avoided the whole title/no title issue but the removal of the black option for the bottom bar is a killer. I'm sure this is fine for the Aura with its more even lighting but I find the cones of light/shadow at the bottom of the Glo screen distracting, which is why the black bar option was added as soon as the Glo was released.

Stock reset point for 2.6.1

I noticed that the factory reset firmware drops down 2.1.2. I wonder why they chose that as the stock restore point and not a later firmware.. Stability and bugs perhaps?

Has anyone noticed that, with firmware 2.6.1, PNG images in EPUB files are not displayed? Specifically, some blank space appears where the PNG image is supposed to be, but the image itself is not rendered.

JPEG images (with or without SVG wrapper) are correctly displayed, while PNG images are not displayed at all. This holds true for both EPUB 2 and EPUB 3 files. Renaming the same file to .kepub "solves" the problem, that is, the PNG images are displayed again.

EDIT 1: see attached images, showing the same EPUB 2 file on Kobo Glo and on Lucifox.
EDIT 2: if you want to test the problem yourself, you can download this EPUB 3 file and go to the Colophon page. There should be three PNG icons displayed, but they are not rendered.

Factory reset, means go back to what was installed when it came out of the factory. It does an install from the recover partition. This contains a copy of the factory installed firmware.

For the Glo, the factory firmware was 2.1.2. You probably never saw this as the firmware gets updated during the setup. I think that 2.1.4 was out when the Glo was actually released.

Newer Glo's might have newer factory firmware. I know the Touch has different versions depending on when they were made.

This works great. Does anyone have a script or methodology that would enable this to be added for a lot of books, either inside Calibre or outside of it? Would love to find a way to batch this without having to go through hundreds or thousands of titles...

to the stylesheet for the ebook. Either Sigil or Calibre can do this. Without this setting, the Adobe ARM renderer will use a default of 2 (unless you get a version that been set for 3) for both those values. Without these settings, a paragraph that would leave 1 or 2 lines at the bottom of a page (orphans) would be moved to the next page leaving blank lines and a paragraph that would leave 1 or 2 lines at the start of the next page (widows) will have enough lines moved to the next page to leave 3 or more at the top of the page, again leaving blank lines at the bottom of the previous page.

See the following links for a bit more information:

I noticed this last night but due to lateness I forgot to add it to the cons list. I had a book I was testing and was using a PNG cover, I had to convert it to jpg to get it to display. So you are correct in that PNG files do not work in epubs with the new firmware.

Still does not work consistently. In other words they appear to have done nothing to fix this which is why I mentioned it under the cons. Books with this setting in the CSS still have large gaps on the pages when it comes to paragraphs that span a whole page or more.

Does the Touch/Mini still have the wishlist bar at the bottom of the home screen? It is not there on the Aura/Glo new tiled home screen.

I've had a chance to play with it a little more, and other than losing the option for a solid bar along the bottom, I'm really happy with this firmware update. PDF ghosting is still an issue, but everything else seems to be running fairly smoothly for me. I'm sure a few more little things such as the above mentioned PNG problem will pop up, but from my point of view, this is easily the most solid firmware update since...well a long time.

Just loaded it onto my Glo . . looking good so far.

The one 'arggh' moment is the giant box on the sleep screen covering up the side of the picture of the current book being read.

Hideous, and offends my delicate design sensibilities.

Try the non full screen cover option; then the cover will be displayed with a border around it, and the percentage into the book at the top in the border area.
