I believe that you are right when your say "self-perpetuating", but not because self-published authors are buying his work! The more you sell on Amazon, the higher up the search results you come, and the easier you are for others to find and buy.

It seems most unlikely that he's making it up. The figures in the screen shot look right too. I can judge this from comparison with my own titles. I have one hot seller - Kim by Rudyard Kipling. So far this January, it's sold 204 copies in the US. Comparing with his mid-list titles, we're at about the same rank in the paid kindle store (very roughly, 10,000).

His best selling title is around #100 in the paid kindle store. I think he really is taking in tens of thousands of dollars per month at present, and if he says that over Christmas it was $100,000, he's probably right.

Evidently, the extra $200,000 Amazon added to the program for January is helping boost the number of titles.

Wow, its going to reach 100,0000 titles a lot sooner than I thought!

To put it in perspective , most public libraries and independent bookstores have less than 30,000 titles.

Yes, I also believe they have more titles in KDP Select than on Smashwords now.

Applying Sturgeon's Law, that means there should be about a thousand years worth of good reads in there.

They're one less title now.

I had a short story enrolled in the KDP Select program. Thing is, I didn't upload the story and I didn't enroll it in KDP Select. I figured Smashwords must've goofed somewhere, because I only have the story published through Smashwords at this time -- I opted out of distribution elsewhere, including Amazon -- and it's always been a freebie.

Emailed Smashwords about it. Never heard back. Finally contacted Amazon and now the story has been taken down. I'd still like to know what happened, though.

0-100K in 3 months or so.

Now to see if/when the growth levels off.
It's got to level off at *some* point before they have more ebooks than Prime customers.

The 90 day term ends in March for the early joiners so we may see a drop then.

BTW, has Amazon posted the January stats yet?

FYI Amazon raised the price for Hunger Games for non-primers.
