I had mixed feelings about it after the first few hours. After a few days, I feel a lot better about it now that I've figured out how to do things. I know some others posted similar experiences where they warmed up to it after a few days. Not saying this will be the same for you, but you may change your opinion, especially if you're technically inclined and willing to make tweaks.

I'm officially in a personal timeout from MR, but had to pop in to say my Fire has a promised delivery of tomorrow. Unfortunately I'm working a late afternoon/early evening work shift and so probably won't be able to play with it until Saturday. And I'm jealous of everyone's broadband speeds. Here in the country is just dialup, though I have access to broadband wifi at work and my favorite pubs. Now, back to cooking Thanksgiving dinner. See y'all later... ![]() |

I am pretty happy with my Fire so far it gave me an excuse to upgrade my Android phone to a 4g model, Which I promptly rooted and flashed a custom Rom on, Free wifi tether now in my pocket.
I have not rooted my Fire yet I am waiting for someone to develop a Rom for it. |

Popping in again...
1 1/2 days with Fire. I'm liking what I see so far. Yeah, with wifi only I'm stuck leaving the house to use it to it's full potential, but I've already loaded it up with books (mobi and epub), movies and audio books that will last me until the next time I get to town. Thanks to everybody in this sub-forum, I've got a bunch of useful apps loaded, and understand the tablet better. And yes I hate the carousel. I've been working on my bookreading roommate to purchase an ereader. She's been playing with the Fire and I think she's just about convinced herself that this is the one she's getting. ![]() |

If you leave WiFi and no apps open the battery on the Fire in Sleep mode uses hardly any power consumption. I have gone three days with little use and no need to Charge then accidentally left WiFi on and found the battery 20% drained before I turned it off.

For $200, I see little reason to complain so far but it is very early since I bought it yesterday morning. I don't know what it cannot do that my SGT does but as I make my way further with it, I guess I'll find out.
I rather evaluate a product by what it CAN do for the money however. If it meets ones needs then all the better. Comparing it to something that can which the KF cannot isn't really going to matter unless it is a necessity AND the price point is relatively the same. |

Am at a better B&N location now for wi-fi and the KF is smoking. Browsing websites and streaming from NF and Amazon instant is great so far for what I tried.
I'll be monitoring the football games this afternoon with the KF and cannot wait to see how nfl.com works. I didn't realize the device follows along as you type so this is just another plus. I'm a hunt and peck typer so this makes that so much easier. |
