Amazon Kindle DX leather cover and reading light question

I just received the Amazon Kindle DX leather cover. The Pathway reading light I use is from Target, it uses 2 AA batteries and it clips on the cover. Anyway it kinda protrudes (curls up at the bottom of the clip) and sticks out into the back of the Kindle. Not sure if this really will damage the leather or the back of the kindle, or if it will destroy the thingamajig that holds onto the Kindle, or if it will destroy my Kindle (like I have read about at Amazon reviews).

Also how far can you open the back side of the cover before it breaks the attachments to the kindle that holds it in?

I do like the cover, unfortunately I have to have a reading light to read by. A bedside lamp can't be tolerated by someone

I am wondering what other Kindle cover users attach for reading lights that does no damage.

Can you fold the front cover to go behind the back when you read without damaging anything? After reading the Amazon reviews on all the busted Kindles I am obsessively worrying it will happen to mine.

Thanks.

I use a cheap (~$5) mightybrite ebay clone like this one;

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/eBook-Ama...item27c10bbacc

If you do a few searches on ebay you'll see lots of different types. I like the ones with a gooseneck because you can adjust the light better. Mine uses 3x aaa batteries that seem to last ~20-30 hours.

Some of the better ones have two light bulbs that you can use for hi/lo lighting. If I were going to buy another one I might look at one of those.

Kind of a personal thing so you might just need to try out a few to see what works best for you.

Cheers,
Tom

Just received mine, looks real good! I tried that Chinese PDF book on which a page turn is supposed to take 1-3 minutes on the Boox 90, and it works as fast as an English book. Apparently the Boox can't handle that it is typeset right to left, by columns. The file is only 6 MB.

Also got the Amazon cover. Looks and fits quite well, it also is a lot thinner then I expected from the user comments on Amazon.

The Kindles with 6 inch screens have 166 pixels per inch and the DX Kindle models have 150 pixels per inch, so their pixels are a little bit bigger. That makes the exact same font a little bigger on the DX.

I was reading the Amazon review (2nd one) and he said the DX leather cover has magnets that keep it closed? What?

I returned my "Pathway Brite-spot 3 Brightbook" booklight because it wouldn't stay in place, it kept drooping. Too bad because it lights up the Kindle really well. I had one for my Kindle 3 that worked fine for a year and then started drooping a bit. I bought a "Pathway Multi taskbright" tasklight (flexible neck) sturdy clip and magnetic free-standing base. Will that magnet hurt the ereader? I have read conflicting opinion on electronics and magnets.

I had the same tasklight (with a magnet) on my sony ereader and it didn't hurt it.

I had the Mighty Brite and had to replace several times because the gooseneck lost all shape after several months. Could have been good if it lasted.

There are no magnets on my DX cover from Amazon. The top is being held in place by a string.

I have a DX and one of all the other prev models and now a Fire -- I would wait for the DX sized Fire to come out for PDF -- or use Fire in landscape mode on PDF. I'm just reading some legal docs on Fire that way. Do expect a DX-sized Fire to be heavy though. I one-hand the current Fire but then I've got really big swedish farmboy hands....

But I guess you work out a lot... Actually one handing the DXG in case for 30 minutes is a pretty decent muscle builder, I would guess.

That is what I thought too, no magnets on the cover. Why would there be? I think people must review the wrong item sometimes.

But I was surprised my taskbright by Pathway had a magnet on it. I guess I will hope it doesn't hurt the DX. Since it didn't hurt my Sony when I used the same model of light that has a magnet.

I use two hands to hold the DX. I don't think I could read on the Fire. I am too use to the nice ereader print and no backlight glare.

Apparently there were several versions of the Amazon Kindle DX cover. They had problems with the original ones breaking off part of the Kindle at the holding latches. I really don't see any stress being put on the device or cover now, even when folding the cover all the way back.

My DXG cover (book type) has magnets on the right edge and no elastic. The left edge clips into the reader itself. I've had it since I bought the DXG (over a year now) and no problems with the magnets at all.
