Sending files over 3G on Kindle
I was just checking something and I remembered some discussions on this thread about downloading pdf files with a 3G Kindle. Here is where they tell you how to download files with your 3G Kindle including personal.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custom...deId=200505520 about 15 cents for a MB for personal files over 3G for US. 99 cents for abroad, but not available in Canada. |

It's interesting to see the results of the poll so far - a very even split. At first, it slightly leaned negative, but now it slightly leans positive.
As for myself, I am still interested in seeing it in person. After my initial thoughts, I've realised that only a few things really matter to me: -The stylus without a holder could be a problem. -A faster processor would be HIGHLY welcomed from me, if it's a noticeable improvement in speed. I don't mind page turns, but highlighting, looking up definitions, etc. are slow enough to annoy me on the 950 so I'd love a device that is faster there. -If the internet connection works faster than the 950 I'll be interested. I have given up using wikipedia on my 950 because it's too slow to wait for it each time I want to look something up while reading. Instead, I highlight it and look it up on wikipedia later on my computer. I'd love a reader that is fast enough to not be burdensome while looking up things on wikipedia while reading. I understand being that fast may not be feasible yet in e-ink readers so I'm not holding out high hopes for this new reader, but I am keeping an open mind until I can see its speed. |

Im still puzzled why they chose to go for a glossy frame. Its almost as bad as have a screen that glares. Doesnt make sense.

I am waiting until I have seen it in person, and have read hands on reviews before I decide if I'll upgrade my PRS 505. After all, my PRS 505 still works. I can use it another year

As soon as mine arrives I'll try and give an in depth review.
I have owned the following Sony ereader devices; PRS-500, PRS-505, PRS-900 (went back fast) and the PRS-950. I had the original Nook and most recently the Nook Touch. The 950 and the Nook Touch were my favorites, I just can't stand how the Nook organizes ebooks. For now I will do reading on my iPhone (sold the Nook Touch today and my son took over my original iPad). |

I agree I wish they would have went with a matte finish. Also I cant really tell from the pictures I've seen but I hope the buttons are not reflective. This bugs me the worst with my 950. It makes using in direct overhead lighting really annoying.

The T1 was put out by Sony to compete with the existing ebook readers. Sony wants more people to buy the reader, thus more people will be ebooks from their store. This is were the money is. Now you have to sell the package. You have to have a cheap ereader, plus a good online store - this is were the money is being made. As for the product, I prefer the quality and finish of the Sony PRS350 or the 650. I am willing to pay more money for a better quality product. Interesting, I think the ereader technology has hit a plateau for now. You don't see anyone coming out with a better screen or quality ereader compared to the x50. This is a testament to how good Sony made the previous ereader.

I just picked up a new PRS650 after ordering and then cancelling the T1. I wanted the metal casing, it was reduced in price, but still a bit dearer than the T1 will be, but I made up for that by also managing to obtain a brand new Sony cover with light, which was less than half price so really happy now.

I'm entirely indifferent to be honest. My PRS 350 suits my needs perfectly and unless it gets damaged or something I don't want to replace it.

Totally agree that ereaders are experiencing a plateau at the moment. I see very little difference, beyond price and 3G, between the T1, the latest Kindles and my 650. The latter was a nice upgrade from my old 505, the dictionary, better screen and, to a lesser extent, the touch screen being the main reasons I upgraded. I went Sony as I'm not interested in 3G or the Kindle bookstore.
How far away are we from dual screen e-ink/LCD panels? Or will this never happen and we'll instead see Pixel Qi or Mirasol displays? Seems an age between seeing these technologies on Engadget et al and hearing of anything actually coming to market ![]() A 7" tablet that doubled as a iPad type consumption device ie video, browsing, but also have the strengths of e-ink based readers would be killer - dreams of such a product is why I'm so underwhelmed by the Kindle Fire. My iPad sees a lot use at work where I get a lot of free time, it's been a great purchase, but I find it far too unwieldy and glarey for prolonged linear reading sessions. For me, e-ink in smaller form factor utterly trounces it on that score. A combo device, aaah, here's my money up front, please deliver! Last edited by yegon; 09-28-2011 at 09:48 PM. |

After seeing the new Kindle devices, the new Sony PRS-T1 is looking even more appealing to me. Don't get me wrong, the new Kindles look great, but the PRS-T1 has feature that are appealing to me that are missing in the Kindle: epub (a biggie, you can't find Croatian books in mobi from what I can tell), the 12 built in dictionaries (I read a lot in foreign languages), page turning using either buttons or the touch screen and I like the design of the PRS-T1. There are other things that I suspect will be missing from the Kindle as well that Sony offers (such as PDF reflow), but I won't mention them because the devices aren't being sold yet. I would have liked a metal Sony reader, but if making a plastic reader means that Sony can stay on the market, so be it. With $79 dollar Kindles on the market Sony had to bring their prices down any way they knew how to stay afloat.
