How do you think most writers get their epub formatted books? They feed it through Calibre, or through the Pubit or Apple version of Meatgrinder (or KDP for the mobi format). Most of them are not going to hand-code their books. For most writers, if they get an ebook file that looks good in tests in the major reader formats, that's good enough. Get back to the writing. |

Yes, and I agree about that. The fact is, if you can get your book up in the Kindle store, you're 90% of the way to getting it up in the other stores. It's really not much more work getting it into SW, BN, etc--at least, if you're in the U.S., and you don't have geo-restrictions that you have to worry about. That can be a big If, in some cases.

And you are wrong. This is not a vendetta against any format or reader. It's an issue of availability. An eBook only available from Amazon is an eBook that is not available to most people who read eBooks. And I am not talking just the USA. I'm talking world wide. People have a choice and going one format only takes away this choice. |

Now maybe using something like Atlantis Word Processor or Open Office with one of the various ePub output plugins would work to solve these problems that plague ePub via Smashwords due to using Word as the source. I cannot say, but there are simple alternatives that might work if Smashwords allowed direct format uploading. |

Second: Since there are millions of more books in the world than I can possibly read in my lifetime, it's just a non-issue. Third: If an author chooses for any reason to publish in any particular format or language, it is entirely their decision and I have no right or interest in castigating them for it...even if it is inconvenient for me. No, I do not believe the world revolves around me. Fourth: You can wrap this topic anyway you want to, but it's the same rant you've propagated in uncounted forums and threads...it's old. As I said before, please give it a rest. ![]() |

Amazon is within their right to only sell to kindle owners. Does it suck for those who prefer other hardware? Yeah, but we just gotta deal. |

![]() Is that patent nonsense really the best response you can come up with? A gracious admission of your mistake would have been the way to go (imho). It's telling that you couldn't actually deny your mistake. |
