Currently reading Shadow of the King by Helen Hollick. It's the third book in the Pendragons Banner Trilogy. I've enjoyed all 3 but if you can't get past typos I would avoid these books. They're about the rise of King Arthur and his love for his wife Gwenhwyfar and the battles lost and won in between.

I'm currently reading Cleopatra: A life by Stacy Schiff. I bought it way back when I first got my Kobo, but had abandoned it in favor of reading some fiction at the time.

Now I'm taking a break from fiction (since I'm writing so much of it lately) and reading some non-fiction instead. It's pretty good, fairly narrative, though she has a tendency to meander a little bit.

I"m currently reading SOUL IDENTITY by Dennis Batchelder. Interesting concept. Good story so far. I'm only about half way through the book.

Matterhorn by Karl Marlantes.

It's a novel about the Viet Nam war. It's totally enthralling. There are some elements I appreciate less than others, but it's still totally enthralling.

Un Lun Dun, by China Mieville. He's a fantasy/sci fi writer. This is probably his "lightest" work, as it's a YA novel. But it's still written in a very serious way that's very enjoyable for adults that like a good metaphor and it does contain a bit of violence.

I'm absolutely loving it. It's quite long - knocking on 500 pages and I'm about 58% of the way through according to my KT. But it's still holding my rapt attention.

It does something rare for modern fantasy, which is that it contains good character development and a lot of moving moments. The focus is truly on the plot line and the characters. The fantasy elements are also well-developed, but I like that the story itself is engaging. Your standard fantasy novel would fail to hold my attention for this long.

It's one of those books I can really lose myself in, and as serious as much of the plot is, I still feel like I'm escaping into the mindset of the hopeful and determined main character. I find myself hoping it never ends, and just caries on curiously and inexplicably, much like the rabbit hole world of UnLondon.

Jamrach's Menagerie, by Carol Birch. With a little Dance With Dragons (George R.R. Martin) every once in a while. And then either The Sisters Brothers, by Patrick deWitt, or 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami, depending on how much time I have.
