Supposedly the firmware was to be released today. We see how well that's gone...

Yes, you almost certainly have the pre-Nov. 20 firmware.

As best I can tell, there is no way to determine the firmware version.

I think I need an article that reviews the state of Android, I thought it was pretty advanced. Although I only need it for reading and minor web surfing I'll probably enjoy programing it.

I'm going to have to find a way to sample the new PB devices as well as possibly other tablets, unfortunately there is no local PB store in my area. I wish they'd release already the new firmware.
Reading whose website? The IQ does just fine for color PDFs. I would not agree that the IQ's sturdiness is questionable. To me it's very solid and sturdy.

Android is becoming very fragmented, unlike iOS and webOS. So there's lots of different versions of Android in use out there. Thus app makers sometimes make several versions of their apps just to get access to the whole Android market, specifically version 1.6, 2.0., 2.1, and now 2.2. I'm a big-time webOS user and enthusiast. Becoming a user of Android has been a slow process and I'm still learning everyday, because from a webOS standpoint some things in Android just don't make any sense at all. But so far I have been able to install apps and use them, which is all I really need anyway. I do plenty of reading and surfing with no difficulty at all.

No kidding, you and all of us who own an IQ would love to have the new firmware.

lack of memory...

I want to install apps as many as I can but the lack of memory message always comes up at some point. Anybody resolved this problem? The fact that it can recognize only the internal flash memory sucks.

I need the new firmware... can't nobody guess the time of update?

I believe the homepage on the pre-Nov. 20-update is white, andafter the Nov. 20 update is yellow.

Sorry I wasn't clear, I was talking about the Archos - that on their website it seemed great, but I guess I should have realized that if they sell ipad type devices for only $300, something must be less quality.

With Archos the concern traditionally has never been the hardware quality but with the software quality. That's one reason they've moved from proprietary firmware to Android.
And I wouldn't assume anything cheaper than iPad is inherently lower-quality as Apple charges a significant premium solely for their logo. Other companies are happy to subsist on merely reasonable profit margins.

I think Android will allow you to install programs to the external SD card. I'm not 100% sure about that. I will test it as soon as I get my 32GB SD card in the mail. Hopefully it'll arrive soon. Otherwise the IQ is going to be a pain in the %^*& regarding apps.

Awesome man! What's the problem you're having with Slideme? Don't try to install SAM 4.0, it doesn't work. Only SAM 3.5 works so far.

Android 2.2 has the ability to run apps from the card but only if they were written to do that. There are several apps that can help determine which will run from the sd card and which will not.

I'm using a 16gb sdcard but cannot find anyway to install apps on the SD card. (maybe, there is no way with this version of Android..)

OK, that makes sense. That's kinda what I figured. We'll just have to wait for the GIK to actually RELEASE SOME FRIKKIN FIRMWARE! (Two weeks and counting, no firmware since the shipping of this device...)

There was actually an update and you might have missed it, but there's a brand new one available right now.

I've never seen an official update on the official pocketbook website (such as www.pocketbook-usa.com) and still can not see any brand new one available there. What do you mean by that? Please clarify the location of the brand new firmware update. Everyone wants to see it.

One more thing. I'm kind off pissed of by the fact that someone has a newer firmware and some others not. The fault is not our side since I never had an opportunity to see it. Don't say that someone "missed" an update. Moreover, don't spill incorrect information as I'm clicking and refresh againg and again on the pocketbook website to see whether the update is there, wasting my time. I'm just seeing "coming soon" there.
