Or it could be that people like the Kindle because it is easy to use, has a great screen, and most folks have no clue about the different formatting types so they don't care that the Kindle uses MOBI.

This poll is only valid though if you assume (or know) that mobileread members are representative of the ereader buying population in general and particularly in the USA, since the Nook, as far as I know, is not available outside of it. | |

I bought a Sony PRS-300 at the beginning of the year and just this week bought a NOOKcolor. The NOOKcolor also falls under the "Color LCD" option, but I selected just NOOK.

There seem to be a disproportionate number of new members over the weekend and at the start of this week with Kindle's waiting under the Christmas tree. Purely anecdotal because no newcomers have joined this poll yet, but it would seem that second favourite choice at the close of year 2010 is Nook. Cheers. Neil

I'm a Kindle fan, but this poll is going to make me take a close look at the Sony's to see what people like about them. The time I've spent with them at the store has not been anything close to compelling. Kindle is now on top of the poll, and I read somewhere today that it was 50% to 60% above Amazons own projections. Last edited by RockdaMan; 12-21-2010 at 07:07 PM. |

Sony's are popular outside of the US because they are more easily available then many other EPub readers and most books in Europe are available using EPub. The Sony Fans I have seen seem to appreciate the durability of the device, the touchscreen, the size, and EPub. |

I think it's worthwhile to start another poll on the 24th? What did Santa bring you? It doesn't need to run for long. I should think that Christmas will provide us with a valuable insight on what to expect next year.

I think that now we have a fairly decent idea of what folks have been buying this year through 600 or so polsters, Mark, it may be well worth while to keep this poll open over Christmas so that we can see if there's a sudden swing, possibly caused by those without ebook-device experience basing their choice of gift more on hype than knowledge. That's the point. 'Kindle' now seems to have caught on with the general public as a catch-all generic word for a reading device (like hoover for vacuum cleaner) and it'll be interesting to see if Christmas figures might be largely the result of such familiarity with the word or if folks are being more discerning and seeking advice as to what machine might best suit their friend or family member. Cheers. Neil

Here's hoping the huge group of newcomers to MobileRead will join in now to tell us what devices they found under the Christmas tree. Happy Christmas weekend, folks. And here's to a great 2011. Best wishes. Neil

I'm delighted with the Kobo I bought in August. I got an Android 2.1 smartphone in November, but I doubt that I'll do much serious reading on it.
