Thanks, davidfor, for the img!

Onto the next challenge: the new img indicates that my ereader is logged in with credentials that are not mine. I'm the only owner of this device and have only used one set of credentials.

A factory reset does not work.

Is there a deeper reset or a way to wipe this device to a complete starting place?

Sorry, I don't know. The image was given to me by someone else as I don't have a WiFi. I thought it was created just after a factory reset.

A factory reset should fix things, but again, I don't have the device to try. Hopefully someone else with one will know.

Actually, with the later devices, if you wipe the user partition, or at least get rid of the database in the .kobo directory, that will force the device to prompt for the setup.

Are you doing a factory reset from the menu on the Kobo and not by pushing the reset button on the back using a pin? It has to be done using the menu option when it's powered up to reset the email address on the sd card.

I am like davidfor, I don't have my wifi version any more, so hopefully someone else can chime in and help.

I tried a factory reset through the settings and also by pushing in the reset while holding in the home button.

i came here with the same enquiry -but mine has reset ok via the menu option. After reset i had to restart before it reset properly. Now it still shows the serial as 0000000000 but the bodgy email addy is gone. Books re-downloading from calibre now. Thanks again to the regulars here - davidfor and flyboy320 particularly.

Glad you got it working...

Also, don't forget that Kobo has replaced these readers for an updated one as the bad firmware is Kobo's doing, so if all else fails, call Kobo and get them to replace it.

I am also now suffering from the forced 1.9.11 update - "No books found" problem on my N289. Can someone please provide a link to the firmware?

I just ran into the same issue... the thread that keeps track of firmware download links no longer has valid links for anything before 1.9.12, unless I'm missing something. Would anyone here be so kind to share a pre-1.9.11 image of the N647 firmware with me?
