Will replace iLiad with a Sony PRS

Are you sorry you bought your iLiad? Wishing you'd bought a Sony reader instead? I'm willing to pay the cost of a new Sony reader to take that iLiad off your hands. I only need one, though. Send me a PM if interested.

NEVER! You'll have to pry it from my cold, dead hands... (and I don't even have working PDF functionality at the moment!)

I think most of us have gone through too much with our Iliads by now to part with them, whther we are happy with them or not...

Am I the only one getting tired of all the negative posts about the Iliad...? Personally, after reading about all the fun things people are doing to pdfs onto the Sony Reader I am very, very glad I bought the Iliad and wouldn't switch over...

Have you tried ebay...?

I'd have been surprised if any of you (who have responded so far) had wanted to give up yours. I'm just checking to see if any of the folks who do seem to have lost interest in the iLiad would like to sell one. I can't afford one at full-price, but I think I could manage the cost of the Sony (about half the iLiad). The Sony doesn't meet my needs as I would primarily use it to make notes on PDF files, so it wouldn't make sense for me to buy one.

Nothing on eBay at the moment, but I do check periodically.

Second that!

Although right now, my iLiad is with a journalist-friend of mine for review, and it doesn't work... hopefully it's just the battery that went out because of low storage temperature... this just after the iLiad recovered from a shower... I'm a bit nervous now! Better start taking better care of it:S

I went to Fry's yesterday and looked at a sony reader. I was amazed how small it is compared to the iLiad. That in addition to the touch screen, open format support, resolution, wifi, etc... I could never use the sony reader. I love my iLiad!

I'm not trying to argue with you, Adam B., but I did want to clarify that (unless I missed something) the only format the iLiad supports that the Sony Reader doesn't is HTML, and the iLiad's screen isn't any higher resolution, just bigger -- they're both the same PPI, the iLiad just has a few more Inches to have Points Per. Of course, the deeper levels of gray do make for rather a difference.

All that aside, I'm glad that you have found a device that does what you need it to do.

It may not support more formats, but it handles them better IMHO. I've viewed the same documents on the Reader and the iLiad. Not only were they bigger and more readable on the iLiad, but with the rotate/zoom/continuous mode it is much easier to deal with regular documents without first manipulating them on a pc.

Also, HTML support is a big deal for me. I just converted my first CHM file today (I have a lot). It worked *very* well. The pages are easy to navigate, links and toc work, I can increase text size and view pictures.

The iLiad has a 1024x768 display, the sony is 800x600.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't think the iLiad is quite ready for mass consumption, but for my uses, it's leaps and bounds better than sony's reader.

Yes, but because the iLiad has an 8" screen and the Reader has a 6" screen, that 1024X768 vs. 800X600 works out to the same the same per inch resolution: 167 PPI. That's what I was getting at, sorry for not explaining what I meant more clearly.

It does sound like the HTML support is an important feature for you, probably about the same way RTF is for me. In any case, I'm just glad that the iLiad is out there, and that it works for what you need, just like I'm glad the Reader is out there and works for what I need.

Hey neko!

I would have traded it for a reader box!

Seriously I like the sketching capabilities of the Iliad. It's a different tool than the PRS. Kind of like the difference between a table saw and a miter saw. Two very different beasts.

Yes, exactly, Ivanleterrible. I'm looking for someone who's simply bought the wrong tool and wants to switch.

Assuming you meant you'd trade a reader box made by you for an iLiad -- I don't think I can match your woodworking artistry! I do make nice quilted cases with hard screen protectors for handhelds, though. Maybe I should offer to throw one into the deal.
