Update: I'm going to approach this like the Richard Linklater movie "Slacker" - Each story will be self contained, but one character from each story will be the focus of the next story and so on (imagine that character walking off 'stage left' and entering 'stage right' on a brand new set).
Update 2: I'm setting all the stories in a fictional 'noir-like' city called Hopper (or Hoppersville) A strange city that lives on the edge of the night, and where on the outskirts it's always twilight Update 3: I've added in a short intro about "Hoppersville" and the first line of the "Nighthawks" story Update 4: I'm going to change the name of the collection to Hoppersville - sorry, Zelda I think we might get in trouble with Tom Waits if we call it "Nighthawks at the Diner" Last edited by Moejoe; 08-18-2009 at 01:35 PM. |

Well it looks like we'll only get 10 takers for this 'suggested writing' thread. I was hoping for 25, but c'est la vie Maybe it's a good thing because the first story clocks in at around 6,500 words, an intriguing little tale of taxi drivers, breaking up and people who 'sleep in the day'...if that's anything to go by we'll be in the 60-70,000 words for the whole collection.
I've just finished story no2 and I'm working on some covers and a blog post |

are submissions closed, then ? you might get some late takers...
but even 10 sounds brilliant. i can't wait to read them. i know all about "sleeping in the day" although i'm no taxi-driver. |

Yeah, I think submissions should be closed now as I'm already pretty much built into an overarching story (think Night on Earth rather than Slacker)

I think you did, at some point, some time, although I'm a little vague on when and where These stories are writing themselves, they have a 40's vibe, but they're set in a world that doesn't exist and couldn't exist, and they're weird too, but not silly weird. Hard to explain, really, how the pictures are sparking off stories...just that I sort of know instantly what the story is and where I'm going next
