If you can't read it in the K4PC app, that means the buyer must purchase a Kindle. Or maybe Big River would just say to use their "cloud" reader. I'd ask for my money back if it was a purchased book.

I got it into Calibre via the K4PC app, so there was no need to return it. Presumably Download & Transfer would have worked too (I have a couple of older Kindles still registered to my account), but I wanted to know if the Kindle for PC method worked with this book. Fortunately it did.

I ran into that issue too. Thankfully someone told me to install Kindle4PC and use epubor, and that has worked beautifully today for the books I bought. *grumble* I HATE that Amazon can basically hold books I PURCHASE hostage, simply because I don't WANT to use THEIR proprietary software to read them.

Ah, but you aren't purchasing the books. You're purchasing a license to read them on your Kindle if and where and when Amazon pleases.

Seconding the fact that there's no need for epubor. There's nothing it can do that DeDRM etc can't do.

It appears that the Kindle for Android route is becoming problematic. I have been using it without problems for a year now; but I have purchased three books that were released in the May and June time frame and the Kindle app refuses to download the books with a message telling me to install the latest Kindle app.
Downloading books released before May works without problems. |

Maybe I was lucky with the particular books I tried, but I was able to download a couple of June releases with old Kindle for Android. Mind sharing at least one of the ASINs of the books you had issues with?

There could be other factors in play besides the specific book. The exact version of Kindle for Android and possibly even the Amazon region could influence the ability to download.

For the record: I am using Kindle for Android 4.15.0.48 on Android 9.0-rc2
Is there a better combination? |

I tried the first one on your list and it downloaded and imported happily. Kindle 4 Android 8.51.1.0 on Bluestacks 5.11.1.1004, Android 9 SDK 28. Calibre 7.12, DeDRM alpha release.

Alternatively, get latest beta nodrm, calibre kfxinput plugin, K4PC. A lot more convenient, too. |

Help - Missing Prompt Window in Bluestacks 5
I'm on stuck on Step 2 of this tutorial. Specifically, when trying to generate the "backup.ab" file, Bluestack 5 won't display the confirmation screen required for the backup operation.
Attached are 5 screenshots, the first 2 of which contain the various ADB commands that I tried. ADB seems to be working as I was able to use ADB to install the Kindle apk itself. However, ADB Backup commands simply won't trigger the confirmation screen in Bluestack, and an hours worth of googling produced no solution. (For the ADB screenshots, please disregard the typo that is "com.kindle.amazon". Bluestack failed to launch any confirmation window even when I tried the correct spelling of "com.amazon.kindle" or "-all".) I also took screenshots of my notification settings for both Bluestack 5 itself and the Kindle app (running within Bluestack 5). Those are also attached with this post. My Bluestack 5 version is 5.21.210.1023 P64. Please let me know of any fixes or alternatives (For example, are there any commands that will let ADB forcefully generate the backup.ab file without user input in Bluestack? ADB didn't need user permission to install the Kindle apk, so I was hoping that it wouldn't need permission for generating the backup.ab file) Thanks for any help. |
