If you don't have any specific reason for wanting the Onyx Boox Leaf, you should probably go for the Libra 2. Physical page turn buttons + a better screen for a lower price, and probably easier to replace if something goes wrong. Simpler to get going and use. What's not to like?
Myself, I opted for a Nova 3 (monochrome) a while back. I miss page turn buttons and a clearer screen with better contrast (I think it's the distance between the top glass layer and the actual e-ink screen that makes it just slightly unclear). While the screen could conceivably be better on the Leaf, it's probably not as good as on the Libra 2. But for my use case the Onyx devices are better. I use my e-ink devices as language learning tools: I read in several languages and need dictionaries for them. Kobo provides next to no information about their dictionaries and Google searches tend to show posts by people complaining about this aspect of Kobo. Using Android also provides the opportunity to sync my devices efficiently (I use syncthing to sync my library between my phone, my ereader and my computer). I can also use the browser to download books directly unto the device - they are then synced to my other devices. They are stored in a folder structure. (As far as I know the Kobos lack this. But their "collections" can be managed in Calibre, I think.) Don't need any dictionary outside of English/external apps/web browsing/extreme configurability? Get the Kobo. |

I agree the Onyx screen is probably not as clear as a Kobo/Kindle. Also Kobo is easier to get and get support for. You got to want an Onyx, and I do.

"I buy all of my books from Amazon and use the DeDRM plugin to remove the drm and then convert them to epub in calibre."
Did I miss something? Is there a new DeDRM plugin that works to remove the drm from kindle ebooks? I haven't been following this thread on the forum and my current drm tools do not remove drm from kindle ebooks. I would really like to remove that drm. |

Thanks for all the valuable feedback! I ended up getting a small holiday bonus at work so I bought both the libra 2 and the boox leaf this way I can truly test them out and find which is best for me and pass the other to my partner

Thanks for your help DNSB I do appreciate it. I have given up Dealing with Kindle for PC because dealing with finding the older version (1.17) and verifying that it is not a malicious version was more than I trusted myself with doing. I have had success with the managing your contents and devices route but lately it has not worked quite a bit, like mostly. Probably will have to do something about the new DeDrm tools. I do like reading my ebooks on my kobo device even more than on my oasis 2.

There is one definite drawback to leaving Amazon. Fintie does not make their excellent easel stand case for any other ereaders.
