Can the just the year used for the date?

I have books where it is not filled in for me what in both the month and year is nor do I have a way of knowing. I do know where the copyright date is, and it is always a year.

What I need to edit a file? With what code?

If you have only the year, then add the date as 1 January of that year.

Likewise if you have only the month and year, add it as the 1st of that month.

I believe that is common practice when the full date is not available.

Preferences / Tweaks / Control how dates are displayed (ID: gui_pubdate_display_format)

And perhaps Tweaks / Choose whether dates are sorted using visible fields (ID: sort_dates_using_visible_fields), but probably not needed as the visible field contains the year.

Copyright date and Publication date are not the same thing, copyright can be registered years before a work is published.
