Why doesn't Amazon want us to turn off kindle completely?

I've just sold my Kindles asleep. Charge them fully before and the battery should last until the buyer gets them. But of course the distances in my country are small.

Yesterday I sold my Libra H2O and I did power it off after the factory reset.

That's what the search bar command ;shpm is for, it does a factory reset and power off all in one go.

Do Kindles take themselves out of airplane mode periodically? I could swear that I didn't do the last update where they changed the UI (since I don't use it) but after reading this thread I got out my Oasis and when it started up it started giving me the introductory/tutorial stuff about the new UI. This time I made it forget the wifi access point as well as turn on airplane mode.

Not according to my experiences. But of course nothing is certain with Amazon.

allows you to power off your kindle down if you have KUAL installed. it's not just blanking the screen, it's a real power off.

But new Kindles cannot be jailbroken. So that's out.

Some of the Kindles (my PW4 and old Oasis) have an extra "off" state requires a short "waking up" period. This machines seem to go into this state automatically after being off for a longs enough time.

The extra off state clearly uses less power than the standard off state, but I don't know how it compares to a true "power off".

Thank you! I looked and looked for such a thing, but finally gave up and just used the terminal emulator in KOReader to run `shutdown` manually.

It is essentially hibernation. The CPU state and RAM contents are saved to emmc and the kindle is powered off. When it it turned back on, instead of booting it restores RAM and CPU state from storage.

...warning to others, the format of the rar file is a bit different than other extensions, and must be extracted to the extensions folder, not the root folder.

I used to think so as well but after further thought, I don't believe that's the case. Writing to the Kindle's eMMC is horribly slow so I don't believe it's doing that.

It seems to me that "Deep Sleep" is just a deeper CPU sleep state compared to normal. I seem to recall reading the specs for the PW4 SoC somewhere which supports this theory. Also explains why the PW4 has Deep Sleep but the PW3 and other older models do not.

That might be the case. If so, it is a major breakthrough. I can not tell any difference in battery drain than power off. I don't see how it is possible to keep DRAM refreshed without using noticable power, but that doesn't mean somebody didn't figure out how to do it.

All you have to do is extracting the extension and put it in the KUAL extension folder. it's the first time i made a KUAL extension and a lot of extensions i found did the same (a archive to extract into the extension folder).

how would you package and distribute a KUAL extension?

edit: oh, you mean because i didn't put the extension folder into a empty "extension" folder in the archive so you can just extract it in the root folder so it puts it automatic in there. i don't see that as an big issue.. :/ i have seen a few other extensions doing the same.. so i didn't paid much attention to that. after all i even added a howto for the installation which tells you to put it into the extension folder, not extracting it into the root folder.
