OK, although, I did emphasize "possibly." The possibility would presumably depend in part on the law applying in a given case. Quote:

tl;dr: I mentioned that DMCA is a possible factor in the matter for some people, DNSB pointed out it only matters in the US. |

Why I'm wondering if this forum is still hosted in the US is because of copyright limitations on authors, as in 50 years, or (the US imposed by trade negotiations) 70 year rule. (Which now applies in too many countries, sigh)

Good grief we even get US fruit and vegies etc, because of enforced balance of trade. We grow every variety of everything here - easy to boycott US produce Okay back on topic, anyone noticed any changes to the new drm apart from what has already been noted? I don't have any sympathy for Kindle owners who can only get library eBooks in ePub. It is their fault for buying a Kindle which is incompatible with their local library. They could either buy a Kindle and a Reader compatible with their library or just forgo a Kindle. But in any case, they chose a Kindle.

But is it a compelling reason to strip PI from the ebooks you bought? Definitely. Maybe. On the one hand, embedding some form of identifier that links an ebook to a purchaser is a viable anti-piracy mechanism. The ebook itself does not need to be DRM-encumbered for this to be viable. For example: PDFs from Drive Thru RPG are marked with the purchaser's name and order number but are otherwise unencumbered and can be viewed with pretty much any PDF reader on pretty much any device. On the other hand, if a device can't or won't be secured sufficiently to protect any PI on it then that PI should be removed and in fact should never be on the device in the first place independent of any DRM. |

If so then I'd use the setting to have it remember the password so I never have to enter it again. Maybe once per book might not be so bad. Last edited by hobnail; 11-23-2021 at 11:15 PM. |

I'm the least security conscious person I know. With my new phone I had it using the finger print. Too much trouble. Prior to that it was the connect the dots pattern. Also got tired of that. So I just turned off the security altogether. I haven't bothered to figure out how to get it to recognize my face, but it would probably be half baked anyhow and I'd end up turning it off. Whenever the pandemic is finally over I'll have to do something when I go to baseball games since I leave it in my backpack in my seat when I go to get a hot dog.
