Talking of 911
![]() Just after I left the house yesterday a shiny new white Porsche 911 Carrera coupe pulled up on the other side of my street. I took little notice of it until someone called out "Mr B……. Mr. B……!" I looked towards the voice and saw my doctor climb out of the Porsche. He was on his way to tell me he was closing up shop and to hand over my file. I liked this guy because, despite his love of high performance cars, he was lo-tech. Hence the in-person call rather than a telephone call or email. His surgery was within walking distance, his patients didn't have to make an appointment to see him, he did house calls (not that I used them, but I know people who did), etc etc. So now I have to find another doctor - which is an effing PITA. I suspect finding one that doesn't want to do everything over the phone isn't going to be easy Ψ³ BR |

Mine was not quite that bad. It was the ones up in the air we were worried about. If it had stared a fire its so dry the whole block could have gone up.

In the building next door, where there used to be a museum is now a furniture and interior decorations store. It's a great addition to the neighbourhood but I get so annoyed with them leaving the lights on at night. I can understand leaving some lights on in the shop, for passersby to see their products (we have some LED lights we have on at night), but more often than not they also leave lights on upstairs, where they store items and (I think) take pictures of them.
This time of year I often sleep with only my sheer curtains closed, in hopes to get my bedroom to cool down and if they leave certain lights on it lights up my bedroom. I've already visited them a couple of times, warning that those lights stay on at night and that that is such a waste. But they don't get the hint. So I'll have to visit them soon to tell them the lights are bothering me. Luckily, the last couple of days have been cool, so tonight I can close my light blocking curtains. |

I do think "it shines in my room and keeps me awake" might get better results than "oh, environmental reasons". They're more likely to want to please a neighbor, than to just save the planet.

Yes. Also, a good sleep mask can be a useful item. Go for the light-weight "silk" ones. They work well and they're not as hard to get used to.

Ditto - for 25 years or so. I like the ones molded to have a small dome where the eyes are, so your eyelashes don't brush it.
