loc.gov does have a lot of books, but US topics are pretty boring for the most part.

Google/Sony Offerings Available to Mac Users?
I have a Macbook and a Sony Reader. I just visited ebookstore.sony.com using a web browser, but it doesn't appear the free Google books are accessible without having the Sony library software. They don't seem to have a Mac version, so are the Mac users out of luck? Or is there a secure login version of the Sony site that gets you access?

No, you have to use the PC software for now.

Can you select all of them easily? Are they copy protected?

PG is starting to post EPUB format, which with Calibre command-line tools can be quickly turned into just about any format you like -- I've started posting them in Mobi format to http://freekindlebooks.org/MobiMirror. These postings contain the PG "legalese" ie they ARE the PG files "file format converted to run on your computer." As such you can do anything you might want to do with them that you can do with any other PG file. EPUB is probably a better place to start from though, not MOBI.

It's dangerous to generalize when it comes to reading habits and gender, or in anything, for that matter It would probably be safe to say that some men might not care for Gabaldon's fiction. I read one romance novel - a Harlequin romance - just to see what all the fuss was about. At the time, I worked in a used bookstore and women (and only a handful of men) came in looking for back numbers to complete their collections. I didn't care for that Romance novel, because it seemed too simplistic for my taste. So I went back to reading about Bug Eyed Monsters (BEMs) chasing and cavorting with naked (or barely naked) females. That's called Science Fiction, which women do not like. (I'm making a joke!) Don |

P.S. I didn’t know that Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series is considered a romance series, or a 'Harlequin romance', whatever that is! Is that American for Mills & Boons? I would have thought that is was more Historical Fiction or even Science Fiction? Last edited by dragonbone; 03-29-2009 at 08:45 AM. |
