I worked for a Paperback/Magazine distributor in the 70s. I stripped a LOT of books and magazines. By the time I left they were selling (or giving) our stripped paperbacks and magazines to a company that recycled them into some kind of insulation (after coating them with something). I just knew that, instead of the trash company emptying our dumpsters, this other outfit was doing it.

Some of the publishers we distributed didn't take covers back. They just relied on our affidavits. So those books and magazines were thrown away intact. (They were a small minority of the whole.)

I also bought quite a few cut-out LPs at Woolworth's back around that time. I assume Woolworth's was selling these legally.

It wasn't an omnibus. It was a single book.
