My Nook NST worked great for years until I moved to the tropics. Something causes rubber to degrade here so that peeled away. Then it wouldn't turn on one day so I gave up and chucked it. I think that was humidity too.
It lasted a very long time outside the tropics though and was easy to customise with APK's thanks to Renate and Co over at XDADevs. Quote:

to newpower99I had to direct order the battery for my K4 as it seems you can get batteries from NP99 at Amazon EXCEPT for Kindles. They also supplied a replacement for my Garmin |

My old Sony T1 still holds a charge and will turn on after 3 months with still some battery in it. I got a Kobo H20 just because with all my books the Sony takes forever to load.
But I will say the battery in the Kobo certainly doesn't hold a charge the way the Sony does. The Sony is far superior in that. |

The battery of my H2O is six years old and still doing quite well. I have noticed that Sony batteries did not last so well.

I replaced 2 x Kindle Keyboard cells this year, (KK3). Both were 2010 date codes. You could still on one with a charge. The other stopped charging.
Also a much younger Kindle DX, though it may have been old stock. It was a sale after normal sales had ended. More than five years for eInk is good. Laptop cells rarely last that long. |

I've tried blobs of glue and melting bits of 3D printer filament. Still haven't found a fix. The earlier Sony PRS-505 has a similarly designed switch, but made of metal. |

the e-ink screen on my original sony prs-500 is really dark and ghosting badly when you turn pages...to the point of being unreadable. the battery was replaced 7 years ago and still going strong, but i rarely turn it on due to the screen issue.
but the prs-350 still works fine. the weak point (for me) on this device is the stylus. the top part of the stylus broke (and is missing), so if i insert the stylus into the reader, it's a task to bring it out again. my solution was to insert the stem of a q-tip into the hollow tube that is the body of the stylus, then cut the q-tip to the length to allow easy removal of the stylus. works but doesn't look very good. and my original nook glowlight plus (2015 version) is still working like new. I have a Kobo reader model N647. It is one of the earlier models. I have not used it very often but often enough to have the rubber of the 4-way navigation button deteriorate to the point that a piece broke away. It still works fine but I have to press the next page button with the nail of my thumb. I am asking Santa for a Kobo Libra H2O, so keeping my fingers crossed.

I still have my PRS-505 and PRS-300 in working condition. Both my Kindle 3s. My Nook Simple Touch Glowlight. Plus other random ones. Part of why I love eInk.
Hase had better luck on that than tablets. My Tab 3 7.0 is dead. One of my HP Touchpads had battery swell so much the display was pushed completely out by a half inch. Fingers crossed my Fire 10 has a good long life. |

I'm slowly building up a pile of sealed shut electronics. When I get enough I will bake them all in a reflow oven, split and replace all the batteries, then sell on ebay!
