Kindle Problem For the life of me I cannot figure this out. Please help!
I have been trying for a few hours now to try and sort out this conundrum. I am trying to import all my books from my old Kindle for PC software that is on an old computer to a new PC.
This is what I am doing and perhaps someone can tell me where I am going wrong? I don’t know if this was anything to do with the procedure but first of all I sighed out of my Amazon account. I did this because I wasn’t having much luck beforehand and I thought this may be the culprit. It wasn’t. On my new PC, I downloaded a new Kindle for PC interface software completely void of ebooks. When I call this up, my Amazon account comes up prompting me to sign in complete with password. Once I have signed in, I then get another Amazon notice that says, “To continue, approve the notification sent to: my email address. So, I go to my inbox and there is an email from Amazon asking if it was me that signed into my account. I have to click ‘approve’ to prove it was. Then, within the new Kindle interface on the tool’s menu I clicked on, “Manage Your Content and Devices.” Another Amazon window pops up and I have to sign in yet again! Amazon’s website then pops up and gives me 6 books (although I have more than 6 books on the original Amazon Kindle software on the old computer.) I select all 6 books and then click, “Deliver.” Another window pops up that shows me the 6 books that are checked. A drop-down window is also shown that says, “Devices Selected.” If I click on the drop-down window, the top 3 items starting from the bottom first, say, Andy’s Kindle for PC, Andy’s Kindle for PC 2 & Andy’s Kindle for PC 3 with a box to the left of each one. These are my past computers. I am assuming that I need to click the box to the left of Andy’s Kindle for PC 3, so I do. Once I do that, a notice comes up that is only there a few seconds and then disappears so I couldn’t read what was on it. All I could make out were the first few words that said something like, “we are currently working on your request..” Then I am rerouted back to the Manage Your Content and Devices on my Amazon website. It seems as though I am put through a consistent loop that repeats itself each time. Can anybody tell me where I am going wrong and why it does not work and my books are not put in the new software Kindle for PC? Thanks. HB |

In the Kindle for PC Software, when you click on Library in the Go menu, how many books do you see? Is it more than 6? If you only see 6 books, then that's all there are in your Amazon account. The rest were probably side loaded (i.e. they were downloaded as mobi files or exported from Calibre and then you double clicked on each one to add them to your Kindle for PC library). Amazon doesn't have a copy of any side loaded files, so it can't download them to your new PC for you.
For the books that Amazon does have, from the Library screen, you can click on each title in your Amazon account to download it. Assuming you only have 6 books in your Amazon account, then you can find the others on your old PC by starting up Kindle for PC and going to Tools / Options / Content to find out where your books are stored. Then use File Explorer to locate that folder and search it for the .mobi files. |

And in the future use Calibre to manage ebooks.

Thank you, Cathy, for your help. What I did was open up my old PC and went to the old Kindle for PC library. I fiddled about between both computers and Kindle for PC libraries. I eventually managed to get all the books in my new Kindle for PC on the new computer. However, there is still a problem.
Every time I call up the Kindle for PC software on the new computer now, I have to constantly sign in to Amazon. Once I had signed into Amazon again, I then have to approve it through an email each time I sign in. This is a constant pain. Not only that, if I try to open a book that I bought or downloaded from Amazon, I get a message that says, “Please register your device first to open this content.” Any of the other books that were not bought or downloaded from Amazon, I do not have a problem with. 1. What do I need to do to stop the constant procedure of signing in? 2. How do I register my device so that I can open the content? Are the two related in some way? Thanks HB Addendum: how do I get Calibre in this instance to manage books as you say? Last edited by Heathside Boy; 11-30-2020 at 10:32 AM. |

I suggest you contact Amazon support. Something isn't right about the installation of Kindle for PC on your new computer.
Amazon support should be able to talk you through getting an installation of Kindle for PC working correctly so it doesn't forget its registration all the time. |
