I suggest you give Amazon a call and see if they'll be willing to do anything for you. You have nothing to lose by trying.

As the device in your profile is a "Horrible Kindle," why would you give Amazon any more of your money? |

I suggest you don't give Amazon your money but instead give Kobo your money for a Forma that has a plastic backed screen that is much more durable then a glass backed screen in a Kindle.

Never knew you could break the glass substrate so easily.
So today I went and got myself a lockable dairy, and made a cut out of my kindle inside it. Now I don't need calibre to change jackets and have real page turns, plus I have a key to unlock a pw4.. Last edited by Gandulf; 09-03-2020 at 05:03 PM. |

I'm not sure it is "that easy." I've been using Kindles since 2009 and have never broken a screen. I've dropped them, had one go flying across the floor when I dropped it. I do keep them in rigid cases, and am careful with them.
But, you can't lean on them, sit on them, toss them into a book bag with heavy books, etc. You have to take care of them like any piece of electronics that you pay $100+ for. Some people are just hard on stuff. You (general you) would know this about yourself and should act accordingly. Buy the extended warranty or a beefy case, if you're a person who has the habit of breaking your stuff. |

I detest the user interface, but I find the screen very readable. I also found it hard to find other e-ink devices with 32G capacity (although that might have changed in the last few years). JSWolf recommends the Kobo, but I'm open to any other recommendations for something with 32G capacity and a decent user interface that can handle a collection of about 4500 books. I like to carry my entire library around with me, but with a Kindle that means that when I finish a book I generally have to consult my Calibre library to decide what to read next.

It's not so easily. I've had a Reader for about 13 years. Never have I broken the screen. So it's not that easy. You just have to take care of your Reader. I've always taken good care.

As far as fixing a reader is concerned, do a Google search. I have a Kindle DX that got a damaged screen several years ago and I found a repair service that cost a lot less than a new or good used replacement unit.
On Ebay the DX is still relatively expensive as nothing comparable ever introduced by Amazon. Last edited by Richwood; 09-16-2020 at 02:31 PM. |
