@davidfor: To be fair, given my recent experience with porting a plugin to Python 3 without breaking all the things in the process, the .decode() call in there should have been a red flag on my end when I did the switch to Polyglot, too

The decode() call was what had me. I know it was wrong, but, I coudn't work out why

I'm new to Kobo and am working with this plugin to convert books to kepub as they get sent to the device.

If I send an ePub, it seems to end up in the device as a kepub - that is, it is listed as a "Kobo epub" on the Kobo.

If I send a mobi however, it gets sent as a mobi and no conversion to kepub seems to take place.

In the plugin configuration, I have EPUB, azw, azw3 and mobi checked as formats to send.

I suspect I'm overlooking something obvious here.

To the best of my knowledge KoboTouchExtended has never supported on-the-fly conversion to kepub for any format other than epub.

Kobo doesn't support azw, azw3 format at all. It supports some mobis (pretty badly), but not all.

To see the Kobo at its best, my advice would be to convert any Kindle format (mobi/azw/azw3/kfx) books to epub in your calibre library before attempting to send to Kobo.

Strictly, it doesn't. But, the work it does is after the conversion that calibre does if there is no suitable format. That means that if you don't have a format in is in the formats selected in the driver, it will convert to the first format in the list, and then send. For Kobo devices, it will be either kepub (via conversion, not the driver) or epub. If it gets converted to epub, the driver will transformed it to kepub during the send.

But, MOBI's are supported on the device, and selected in the driver. In that case, the MOBI will be sent unchanged.

So basically, this is working as designed.

I had considered the idea of letting the auto-full-conversion happen on-the-fly, but did wonder how much that would slow down the send-to-device process, especially if you intend to send the same book to multiple Kobos?
