I have this in my PI, and it includes the author-images from FF.net as well.

Is there an option for exluding the author-images?

If I exclude all images, I won't get the artwork from AO3.

There's an ffnet specific option to not use author image for cover, but it's already on by default:

Otherwise I'm going to need a specific example of what you are talking about and what you want.

Hiya again Jimm,
I'm having an issue downloading a new fic from spacebattles. It comes from a special 'logged in only' forum, so I assume the problem has to do with authentication. I've had this work fine on QQ, and even hardcoded into the config/personal.ini my user/pass for QQ. (Haven't done so for SB yet, but might have to now that I'm reading from this unlisted forum).

As of right now, I think I'm going to assume FFF just can't handle the two factor authentication I have enabled on SB. I haven't tried disabling it yet to see if that would bypass this issue, but if it did it would be only a temp solution. Don't want to lower security heh.

The test version has a fix for xenforo2 login since the last released version.

But, no, FFF does not support two factor authentication. Nor do I have any plans to implement it.

One of the reasons FFF stores passwords in plain text in personal.ini is to make it obviously clear that it isn't secure. We could pretend it was more secure, but that's all it would be--pretense.

Yeah, I indeed used that new test version (that I think has been made stable since then) when SB went Xenforo 2.

Yeah I thought it was something along the lines that 2fa wasn't being supported. Ah well, no biggie for 99.99998% of the stories there.

Hi. I am having a problem with downloading stories from ficbook.net since the last update (3.12), though version 3.10.8 work fine (not sure about 3.11).

The issue is that it says error 404 for any stories I try to download from the site. For example, https://ficbook.net/readfic/6415386.

FYI, I just figured out this part is imperfect and can cause downloads to fail when login cookies expire on SB at least. I'll be looking into it.

In the meantime, restarting calibre clears the cookie cache.

Yes, that's what I meant. I use Irfanview because I can use keyboard shortcuts to zoom in and out and scroll up and down and switch from one picture to the next, and because it will play animated GIFs. Windows PhotoViewer used to do these same things, but then they "improved" it and it only shows the first frame of animated GIFs, which threw me for a loop. Almost deleted the GIFs as broken, except I remembered them working before. I suppose I could just unzip them over and over every time I wanted to read them, but that seems troublesome. Sorry about the delay; I've been distracted by the impending demise of YahooGroups, when I'm not swamped at work.

Hi!

So, I have something that bugs me since the last Calibre update, but I don't know if there's something wrong with my settings or if it's Calibre, or if it's Fanficfare, or... I'm rather lost ^^;;;

So, I used to be able to read the fanficfare covers even if sometimes there were too many tags and the summary was too low for ex.
But now I can see everything in what looks like a A4 format, except that it also means that the text is so small that I can't read it anymore / the cover's basically useless.

I tried looking for a solution, but I don't even really know what's the problem, so I don't know where to look. Anyone has a tip / explanation please ?

UPDATE: FYI, setting a large font size for the title page in CSS in the epub does work to make the text on the rendered cover larger. So that's one solution.

This has been bugging me to. With calibre 3.x, I had modified the cover generation to use 600x800 which resized well for my Kobo ereaders.

With 4.x, the method to render the page has changed. It is now in ebooks/render_html.py. That uses A4 for the page size. Using A6 produces an image of size 621x876. If you aren't running calibre from source, there isn't a way to change this.

For the record, I've never been fan of the first page that FFF produces as a cover. I split it to have a first page which is the title (as a h1) and author (separate centred paragrap) and the metadata is on the second page. The first page renders well on my Kobo device, looks a lot neater and is readable in some of the cover sizes used.

I wonder how difficult it would be (and how open Kovid would be) to making that size a tweakable parameter?

Re: Title page, the title page format was created for FFDL before the plugin version existed. But as you figured out, it's all very customizable.

The obvious no-change solution to all of these, of course, is to create cover images using Calibre's built-in cover gen or the Generate Cover plugin. Both of which are also highly customizable.

It comes from a special 'logged in only' forum, so I assume the problem has to do with authentication. I've had this work fine on QQ, and even hardcoded into the config/personal.ini my user/pass for QQ. (Haven't done so for SB yet, but might have to now that I'm reading from this unlisted forum). As of right now, I think I'm going to assume FFF just can't handle the two factor authentication I have enabled on SB. I haven't tried disabling it yet to see if that would bypass this issue, but if it did it would be only a temp solution. Don't want to lower security heh. So, I have something that bugs me since the last Calibre update, but I don't know if there's something wrong with my settings or if it's Calibre, or if it's Fanficfare, or... I'm rather lost ^^;;; So, I used to be able to read the fanficfare covers even if sometimes there were too many tags and the summary was too low for ex. But now I can see everything in what looks like a A4 format, except that it also means that the text is so small that I can't read it anymore / the cover's basically useless. I tried looking for a solution, but I don't even really know what's the problem, so I don't know where to look. Anyone has a tip / explanation please ? (attached: sample of cover before / after)

Do you know what else that's used for? I wonder how difficult it would be (and how open Kovid would be) to making that size a tweakable parameter? Re: Title page, the title page format was created for FFDL before the plugin version existed. But as you figured out, it's all very customizable. The obvious no-change solution to all of these, of course, is to create cover images using Calibre's built-in cover gen or the Generate Cover plugin. Both of which are also highly customizable.
