Well, I just upgraded to 4.18 on my Aura HD and I'm immediately going back down to 4.14.12777. This is due to the backlight bug introduced in the last update.

When you power on the device the backlight comes on at it's lowest setting, and the backlight icon shows it as being off. You can only turn off the backlight but turning it on properly, then turning it off. I was hoping this new update would fix that problem but it hasn't.

Is this bug exclusive to the Aura HD? Because I've not been able to replicate it on my Forma.

Steps taken

1) Turn off frontlight (eink doesn't have backlights)
2) Turn off Forma
3) Turn on Forma

The light stayed off, looking at settings confirmed it was at 0%, adjusting it one percent up and back down to zero produced the same appearance as was visible upon initial boot up.

Identical behavior on my Aura HD.
Unable to reproduce on either my Aura One or Forma.

It wasn't explicitly stated, but, the Aura HD has a button to turn the light on and off. I think the button is being used. I think I know what @TheMgnt is doing, but, it would be good to explicitly see the steps involved. I don't have an Aura HD to test this, and the light doesn't work on my Glo, so I can't try it.

Power off Aura HD.
Power on. Light turns on during boot sequence, light icon on screen has a slash through it indicating light is off. Touching light icon does nothing.
Press light button. Light level increases to 30%, bar through light icon goes away. Touching light icon works normally.

Edit: power off Aura HD with light *off* in first step.

Note: the same happens on Aura HD with 4.17.13694, so this bug was not introduced in 4.18.

I cannot reproduce this on my H2O.

This bug already exists on my Aura (1st Gen.) since Firmware 4.15.12920. I've come to terms with it now

Interesting. I don't have this issue on my Aura HD. I'm now running 4.18 and ran 4.17 before it, without problem.

I used to be able to see how many pages were in the chapter, rather than the whole book. Now I can't seem to do that?? Is it because of this update? I wish they wouldn't change things like that.

It's in the header now. Book progress is in the footer. You can choose if you want page, percentage or time for both in the reading settings (or choose not to show them entirely).

This is what I did too. I preferred the previous version with just a page number (no title) at the bottom.

What I miss from the previous version - if I changed a font, started to read, then realized immediately that I wanted to change the size/line spacing/etc. and tapped to bring up the menu, the font settings would come up.

Hi to one and all,

as a fairly uninformed user, I'm wondering if the fact that more languages are available in the new firmware has any effect on the use of dictionaries?

I'm hoping that Kobo's reluctance to allow extra dictionaries might have softened!
