Reading mobi on iPad - my struggles

Let me start by saying I have never been a fan of the way Apple locks down everything. My issue wouldn't be there if i had an Android tablet, but I have inherited an iPad Air 2. I like it in that it is solid and I prefer the screen aspect ratio, making it ideal for reading.

But, the struggles I have been having getting my mobi file into the Kindle app, or some of the other eReader apps, has been extensive. With an Android, I just drag and drop - a non-brainer. But with the ipad, they want you to go through hoops and they prevent you from achieving your goal with simplicity. So, I waNt to read some mobi files on my iPad. Which app should I use and how do I get it there?!! The Kindle app seems to require you to have your books uploaded to your Amazon account, but I don't want that. I have a kindle paperwhite with a separate selection of books and I don't want that collection and my iPad collection together. I just want to periodically put the files I want into an app where I can read the mobi file and highlight various parts of text. It is for study. Please note, I do not have iTunes. What do you guys suggest? |

Since emailing is out, because you want the ipad library separate from your paperwhite, I would suggest uploading the mobi files to a cloud service and access it from your ipad. When you do that, it will give an option to open the mobi file on your kindle app. I keep all of my ebooks on Dropbox and access them there when I need to.

I think when I tried that with pdf files using OneDrive, it lost the place I was at and so had to find the last page I was at. Do you have that issue?

This is how I get mobi files into the ipad>reader app, without itunes, cloud or calibre:

I use the FileBrowser app to connect via lan to my mac and then transfer any number of files across to folder/s in the FileBrowser app. https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/file...er/id364738545 From there, select what mobis you want to read and use the 'share file' option in FileBrowser to choose from the ipad's available apps that read mobis. I prefer to read them in the tiReader app. https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/tire...r/id1276508285 |

Personally I copy books to the Kindle app using iTunes. Extremely easy to do.

I would recommend Pocketbook Reader, for mobi, epub etc.,

I find it quite decent one, at least for basic purposes. |

Or better yet use my KyBook3 Sync Plugin and sync books and data from Calibre |
