Firmware Update Fw 5.8.11 update

Got PW3 G090 5.8.10. Downloaded 5.8.11 update bin, checked md5. After update the device rebooted, and 5.8.10 remained. Any suggestions?

I think you're correct, only my K3 could change alignment on-the-fly. Nevertheless, such feature removal is disappointing.

Hmm, it worked for me just fine.

If you have not used it a lot since then, do these steps.

1. Go to home screen of kindle
2. click in search box
3. Type in ";dm" ( without the quotes. (Semi-colon), (d)ump (m)essages )
4. this will create 4 files on your kindle.
5. hook to USB, and look at those files in the documents folder
6. one of them has 'system' in the name, look in that one for any errors, or PM it to me to look at.

Where did you find an md5 file for an Amazon update?
I have never seen them post one for any of their update files.

PS: The first two characters are a no-op.

Transfer the file from the web directly to your PW instead of download to PC and USB transfer.
My PW will only update this way for reasons best known to itself.

In case anyone is looking for a FONT_RAMP file for those with middle-aged eyes ... I removed the last three gigantic values and spread out the middle values in smaller steps (I left the smallest three alone as I can't see them anyway!). Thanks to tono1020 for a starting point and shamanNS for the default values. This is for PW2

The device has been updated successfully after reset.
No log files saved, so causes of the issue unknown.

Oh, I understand now.
It is something that 4pda provides for its users.

I did not think that Amazon would have changed their position:

Amazon's attitude in the past was that the Internet would not dare to bit mangle one of their files. Other people's files maybe, but not theirs.
OR
That the checksums in the packages where enough to prevent a bit mangled package from being used.
(Which we know from experience over the years is not so.)

We are not privy to Amazon's plans, so your guess is as good as ours. Have you asked Amazon? They're the only ones who can give you a meaningful answer.

Kobo did a similar thing. They gave the Overdrive feature to just the Aura One. I'm thinking that Amazon is doing a similar thing with the Oasis in order for the Oasis to have more features other than the larger screen.

You should contact Amazon support, either email or chat, to let them know it's something you want. I did. No guarantee they'll do it, but the more people asking the better the chance they'll add it.
