I would say this is a software problem, since I saw the same thing on my old Kobo Touch using the most recent software for the KA1 (firmware 4.0.7523). One thing I observed was that even though the selection seemed to be off (for instance the one handle was located in the middle of the word I intended to select, and the second handle was located in the middle of the next word), the dictionary showed the entry for the correct word.
The other strange thing is that this behaviour has stopped all of a sudden. I do not know when this change happened, but now selecting works again as expected.

Does the KA1 still have the Sketchpad, you could test touchscreen functionality/accuracy there.

If it does not have the Sketchpad, but the Webbrowser, you could go to this site: http://metamorpher.de/sketchpad - it's a JavaScript Sketchpad, JavaScript is slow so it won't handle quick finger movements on the Kobo, but just for testing whether the touchscreen is responsive/accurate at all, it should suffice...

Not sure if there is a native sketchpad mod or something similar that could be used for touchscreen testing for the kobo

Several people have reported erratic touch responsiveness with the KA1, and I notice it, too. When I try clicking one of the menu buttons at the bottom right of the screen, half of the times the button to the right of it responds. Also, when I try to open a link to a note in the text it does a page-turn instead. Quite annoying..

So far, my touch response is decent when selecting a single word.

However, highlighting a sentence or anything longer is a challenge.
Sometimes the highlight goes beyond what I'm highlighting all on its own, or it won't follow my finger at all and stops where it wants to. I cannot fix it, so I end up starting all over, often it takes two-three tries. Weirdest yet is having the highlighting end in the middle of a word cutting off the rest.

I have found that instead of highlighting from beginning to end of a sentence, I do it from end to beginning. That seems to work better, still not perfectly though.

This looks like a fine piece of hardware being let down by some very dodgy firmware. I've lost count of the amount of bugs people have found. Hopefully it gets fixed soon. Anyone have any idea when Kobo might deign to grace the owners with a fix?

Since one week owner of the KA1. I still use Windows7 and when the KA1 is attached to my PC and I start Adobe Digital Editons (latest version) the program hangs (does not respond). This works fine with my other Kobo's. When I unplug the KA1 the ADE program refreshes and shows the library. Is this a problem with the KA1, with ADE or with W7?

I notice that the KA1 to show up in my file-explorer also takes longer (to be recognized by the PC), same with Calibre. Both work but it takes more time than other Kobo (maybe because the memory is 8Gb and not 4Gb or so?).

New firmware is rolling out new. Supposedly fixes the battery drain issues and a few other things as well.

Question about startup screen on Kobo Aura One

A quick question. I just got my Kobo Aura One in the mail yesterday evening and have set it up.

What do the five boxes on the screen mean when you turn it on. My glo has four boxes out of five filled in dark, but the aura one has only two.

I am concerned about a greenish blue shadow on the reading screen. Haven't had much time to use it yet, so will spend some time with it tonight to see if it has to be returned.

Thanks for any answers.

Do you mean the "dancing squares" that are shown during the startup? They are just a progress bar for part of the startup. In the past, they cycled through filling and emptying a couple of times. But, they seem to just fill once now. How many get filled probably depends on how long the boot takes. And the number of books probably affects this.

I only have 5 books, so I guess that would account for two squares vs kobo glow with many books and 4 squares.

Thanks for the quick response. Just wanted to make sure it didn't have anything to do with the battery.

This threads gone pretty quiet. Anything owners want to share? Or are you all busy reading (or charging as the case seems to be for a lot of people)?

Installed the new firmware. My problems with incorrect touches almost disappeared. Battery: first night went from 90 to 20, charged and restared, second night from 90 to 88. So for me almost all problems were fixed.
