August was an encouraging month. I could finish 13 books and therefore I have reached on a total of 90 books in this year, against my annual target of 120 books. I hope to achieve the target well in time, leaving more room for further reading. I have been successful in reducing my TBR and to control my buyings too. I hope to cut down the TBR below 1400 by the end of year. I'm also planning to thoroughly review the TBR and kick out some books, particularly some freebies, which I am carrying over since long time and really do not feel like reading them. This exercise will help me attain a decent number of books in my TBR list.

Current statistics are :

90 books finished during the year.
TBR - 1419 Ebooks, 25 Pbooks, 46 in Wish list.
Books bought this year - Ebooks 13, Pbooks 0, Freebies 24.
September was also a good month for reading and I could finish 9 books this month, including some of the books bought long ago. I have reached a figure of 99 books this year, and with 3 months on hand, I will no doubt achieve my target of 120 books for the year. I did not buy a single book this month, and will resist myself buying more during October too. Although I have made made up my mind to to buy at least five books next month on my birthday.

I spent this weekend to deeply (and ruthlessly) study my TBR and wish list for a long awaited clean-up, and I was successful to cut down the number of some freebies and other books which I bought earlier but have no mood to read them. I did not delete those books, but zipped and uploaded to my cloud space, so I don't see their faces for a while. Although I had expected to cut down my TBR upto 800 books, but I feel I am greedy person.

Anyhow, I reached to a somewhat decent statistics as below:

99 books finished during the year.
TBR - 988 Ebooks, 23 Pbooks, 38 in Wish list.
Books bought this year - Ebooks 13, Pbooks 0, Freebies 24.

Now my goal will be to keep my TBR below 1000 at any cost.

I'm falling down on my attempt to hit my stretch goal -- at this rate, i'll read about 145 books this year, but I'm not going to hit 160. I already know I'll have less reading time in the next three months, not more.

On my goal of keeping my tracking up to date? Not so good either. I get busy and I just don't log it.

I've abandoned two books in the past couple weeks... doesn't help my challenge, since I don't count partial reads.

Three quarters of the way through the year, and how am I doing?

2016 Challenges:
  1. To finish 2016 with my TBR below 700
  2. SUCCEEDED: To read my 75 unread ebooks bought before 1st July 2008
  3. FAILED: To spend no more than £20 per month on average
TBR now at 743. Down 14 on last month. At that rate I might just make my sub-700 TBR goal.

And how much have you overspent on your monthly £20 target?

At least £5/month. It'll probably turn out a little bit more. But it'll definitely be under £30 per month in total.

Well that's not too bad then. I don't have a budget - I dare not contemplate it, particularly if you include the books I buy for my wife, who will only read pbooks, which are obviously more expensive than ebooks in general.

Happy to say that I've just completed my 100th book for the year: the Baen omnibus "Planets of Adventure", by Murray Leinster, which completes my year's reading challenge almost 3 months early. And they've all been proper books, too (or, in some cases, omnibus editions, like the Murray Leinster one), so none of these short story stuff in my count .

I've just done a careful recount. My average monthly spend for Jan-Sep was actually £37 instead of the planned £20. In fact, I've only had one sub-£20 month. Whoops.

That's $45.31 instead of the planned $24.51, for those of us on the other side of the pond.

I just finished my page goal for the year!

Now I need to decide if I will increase my goal for next year. In the past I have increased my goal if I completed my goal before November but 2,000 pages per month is a really nice round number...

I have 5 books left in the Something for Everyone challenge but I am not too worried about them since I have already finished more than I expected. I may still change the "political memoir" category to something else if I do finish the other 4, that will give me a shot at completing the challenge at least.
