Thank you, it worked!!! I edited my post above with a new video. Would you say that I created the file correctly? I have the option to create it as a .txt file, but I choosed the other, "all files". Moreover, do you think I created the folder in the right place?

I am betting that a non-empty directory to be removed before processing an OTA update file is not something that was planned for in the programming. The Kindle runs Linux - and a file that begins with a '.' has a special meaning. |

I am pretty sure that entirely separate from Windows' default pathological hatred of file extensions, is some sort of silly rule that you cannot create dotfiles through the standard UI -- because Microsoft cannot imagine why anyone would want to use such a silly name, so it MUST be a mistake, right?
![]() Easy way to create one anyway is to use the command prompt. |

As one poster pointed out above -
you do have to quote the name to avoid having an extension added. I didn't even consider WinUsers - the single file in the directory does not have to be a dot file, or any particular name. Just not an empty directory. (The name suggested was a reminder to the human user, not the system.) |

Hey guys, i have a question.
i just did the JB on my PW3, everything seemed to work perfectly fine. now i'm trying to do the 5.7.2 update but when i copy the .bin from amazon over my root diretory, upon unplugging my device my PW give me an error saying that there was an unsuported update on my device. when i plug it back in the .bin is simply deleted from the root. is this working as intended or am i doing something wrong? |

update_*.bin packages, both ours and Amazon's, are "model locked". You have an update for the wrong model that your trying to run. Use the first 4 (or 6 ) characters of your serial number and this chart: https://wiki.mobileread.com/wiki/Kindle_Serial_Numbers To learn what its nickname is here - Post that information and we can tell you what Amazon Marketing calls it. ![]() PS: 5.7.2.1 is current firmware. |

Hello all!
I would like to give you some feedback about the method to prevent Kindle from upgrading. I used the following method in a Kindle with 5.6.5 firmware and without jailbreak. Quote:
![]() I have used it, but even then I kept the airplane mode on most of time. I only turn airplane mode off when I need to download some daily news I receive on my Kindle. But one day I forgot to turn it on again, and when I opened my Kindle, it has upgraded to the new firmware ![]() |

Can this be done if I've got a Kindle paperwhite 5.7? If not, on 5.7, can I downgrade and if so, how?

I think I got the first paperwhite, does it work with that one?
Serial starts with B01D 15 I'm still on v5.3.5, it's jailbreaked, I'm looking for the easiest way to get to v5.6.5 + jailbreak... I hope I will not lose my reading progress and notes on my books... EDIT: though I might, I just saw that I enabled Parental Controls... probably more than a year ago.. no idea what password I set... so I might have to reset anyways :/ Last edited by Q-the-STORM; 03-10-2016 at 12:10 AM. |
