Kindle DXG - firmware 3.3 resolution?
I have updated my Kindle DX graphite to firmware 3.1 and after that to 3.3.
I know that is kind of late now, but... how do I know if I reduced or not the actual displayed resolution? DXG has 824 × 1200 pixels, but the Kindle 3 (Keyboard) has only 600 × 800 pixels (I think). Last edited by SoNic67; 12-17-2015 at 09:39 PM. |

You would either have the fb.modes file made for the K3 or the fb.modes made for the DX. The fb.modes for the K3 has only 5 entries being a mix of 800 and 600 pixels and is only 915 bytes in size. The fb.modes for the DX should have 10 entries including 1200 pixels and is 1684 bytes.

Can you list those modes or put here an attachment (if doesn't go against forum rules)?
Also, I cannot seem to be able to enter usbnetworking by commands in search bar. Quote:

The usbnet is really meant for people proficient in using the linux command line anyway because you could easily brick the DX. You should now be able to return to the 2.5.8 or the 3.1 OS without difficulty. That would solve whatever you did when upgrading to 3.3 OS. Why do you want to upgrade the OS? Do not enable the usb auto mode unless you have read the instructions and have ssh working and everything else. EDIT: I can't remember if the auto only affects the usb login or not because I always use the search bar. I have tried the wifi login just prefer the telnet. Maybe you can still telnet into the DX in auto mode or maybe not. I haven't read the instructions for a long time. Last edited by donB006; 12-20-2015 at 03:04 PM. |

Yes, I can telenet in DX on auto mode, I was not sure though.
Why I went to 3.3? Because it was very easy... And it's not that bad lagging, I just wasn't sure about the resolution on ANY of the 3.x firmware versions, since they all where written for K3. And sure, I can see all screen with 3.x, but... is that scaled or true resolution? |

Just telnet to the DXG and look in /etc/fb.modes to see if you installed the K3G version by mistake. The DXG version has 10 modes. Use 'more /etc/fb.modes' to look at the file.

Got that, they are all, listed below.
BTW, I see that "accel false"? I though that the Freescale i.MX31 that is inside DXG has a 3D GPU? Would "accel true" not be helping even for the 2D content? Code:

Your fb.modes file is correct for the DXG.
I don't know about the graphics driver. I think everything is written to the framebuffer by the CPU so don't think the acceleration if available would be used anyway. The eInk updates so slow the drawing is probably fast enough unless you are doing anything complicated. Be sure to try the kpv for viewing ebooks and pdfs and compare with the Amazon factory programs. |
