M. C. A. Hogarth (currently Vice President of SFWA) https://www.goodreads.com/author/sho...M_C_A_Hogarth#
has a number of sales on today to celebrate her birthday. These are mostly all published by the author but are professionally done. I have read and enjoyed several of her books and have just bought some of the discounted ones which I didn’t already have. Links go to the appropriate webpage on the authors site which contain links to amazon, kobo, apple and B&N Note: books are additionally couponable at kobo Prices seem to be discounted in multiple countries not just the US Books are DRM free Free Earthrise (seems to be permanently free, I got this and the bought the rest of the series) (SciFi Space Opera with some romance) http://www.mcahogarth.org/the-her-in...ogy/#earthrise Reese Eddings has enough to do just keeping her rattletrap merchant vessel, the TMS Earthrise, profitable enough to pay food for herself and her micro-crew. So when a mysterious benefactor from her past shows up demanding she rescue a man from slavers, her first reaction is to say “NO!” And then to remember that she sort of promised to repay the loan. But she doesn’t remember signing up to tangle with pirates and slavers over a space elf prince… 99c The Worth of a shell (Fantasy) http://www.mcahogarth.org/the-stone-...eworthofashell Born to a harsh world, we Jokka have evolved three sexes to survive: neuter, male and female. Twice in our lives we may change from one to another. A change we accept with grace… or resignation. It was our way. …until one female defied all tradition: Dlane Ashoi-anadi, revolutionary, intentionally childless, runaway. This is not her story. This is mine. I am Thenet Reña-eperu, female-guardian, voice of orthodoxy… and Dlane’s first and dearest companion. This is the tale of how we changed each other… and how that changed everything. $2.99 Spots the Space Marine (Mil SF) http://www.mcahogarth.org/spots-the-...seofthefiddler Standalone book. The book that launched a thousand internet outrage posts. (removed from Amazon by Games Workshop claiming it infringed their trademark “Space Marines”) Pollyanna meets Starship Troopers in this fast, screenplay-like novel about a 30-something Marine private called out of retirement to join the war against the crabs. But shattered morale is the least of her company’s problems, and their survival may hinge on an unlikely friendship forged between an alien weapons designer and a mother-turned-warrior…. Military SF told in a hard-hitting, quick, screenplay-like style. $1.99 Black Blossom (Fantasy) http://www.mcahogarth.org/the-books-.../#blackblossom Black Blossom is a genteel, conversational fantasy of society, culture… and the perversions that threaten them. $1.99 Flight of the Godkin Griffin (Fantasy) http://www.mcahogarth.org/the-godkin...egodkingriffin Sword and sorcery fantasy with gods, politics, and warfare. Fully anthropomorphic cast $2.99 An Heir to Thorns and Steel (Fantasy) http://www.mcahogarth.org/blood-ladd...thornsandsteel Morgan Locke, university student, has been hiding his debilitating illness with fair enough success when two unlikely emissaries arrive bearing the news that he is prince to a nation of creatures out of folklore. Ridiculous! And yet, if magic exists…could it heal him? The ensuing journey will resurrect the forgotten griefs of history, and before it’s over, all the world will be remade by thorns and steel…. Book 1 of the Blood Ladders trilogy, an epic fantasy with sociopathic elves, vampiric genets, and the philosophy students mixed up in the lot. Last edited by orangekiwi; 10-02-2015 at 05:35 PM. Reason: edited to add note about books being DRM free |

Phoenix Pick’s pay what you want (including free) book of the month is Robert A. Heinlein's Expanded Universe-Volume One
You can get volumes 1and 2 as a bundle for a minimum of $3.99 http://www.phoenixpick.com/botm/Heinlein.htm Robert A. Heinlein has been hailed as one of the most forward-thinking science fiction writers of all time, and Expanded Universe (presented in two volumes) offers the perfect collection of his works to provide readers with true insights into his uniquely creative mind. Heinlein personally selected each story or essay for inclusion in this collection, which is ordered chronologically, starting with his first sale in 1939 of “Life-Line” to Astounding (for seventy dollars). This remarkable collection highlights the development of Heinlein’s writing style and his philosophy on life throughout his career. More importantly, this collection is as close to an autobiography as anything Heinlein wrote during his life. Heinlein was an extremely private person who never wrote much about himself. In this exclusive collection, he offers forewords to most of his stories and essays (and an occasional afterword), giving readers a rare glimpse into the inner mind of the master. Expanded Universe is a must-have for any Heinlein enthusiast and any fan of science fiction. |

On the Heinlein, do note that this new version has images that aren't in the Baen release, but were probably part of the print versions. The formatting's a bit nicer too.

Actually, I DO see paragraph indents on the first line of each paragraph. They may not be what you desire, but they are definitely there. But you don't? ![]() |

I didn't see any at first, and had to study it a bit to notice them. I think paragraph indents should be large enough to help the eye 'catch' the start of the next paragraph easily. This shallow an indent wouldn't do me any good if I got into the book and got to 'seeing' the video in my head of the action and not the actual words. I'd keep tripping up on one long paragraph with this shallow an indent. I'd rather have a line space between paragraphs than that. But it is there. If just barely. |
