For me, I think if I could get my hands on a really high value coupon (75%+), it might be worth it just to try out. But I am not interested in paying $10 or even $5 for it at this point in time. YMMV.

My first thoughts are that it's nice they're trying different things, but you need a lot of points ($240 worth) for what they cost to acquire just to get some of the cheaper ($0.99 to $3.99 retail) books. It'll be a nice bonus if a book is earned, but it's not exciting enough to get me to up may spending there to earn points. YMMV of course.

I scrolled all through that "free book" list and did not see one book you could pay me to read.

I'm not at all encouraged by this development. "Pay to shop" VIP schemes historically seem to be the last desperate, usually hopeless, attempt to save a dying business. Amazon Prime excluded, of course, but that isn't really the same thing.

Where did you see the list of free books?

I probably spend enough at Kobo to make buying a $10 VIP membership worthwhile without the free book, but it would be gravy if there were some good ones to choose from.

There was a a link to this page, and that had a link to 1.5 million books that I could get by redeeming points, but with VIP membership you also get a free book every year and I couldn't find any indication of what sort of books were available to chose that free one from.
