Yes, if that is important to you.

Personally, I only add dates in order to get the books added to the reading challenge, so if I reread a book, I just change the start and end dates to the most recent. My custom tags are for the years I read the books, so if I really want to go back and see how many books I read in a particular year, I can check my shelves.

(I started participating in the Goodreads reading challenge in 2013; before that I made half-hearted attempts to track my books in Goodreads, but I didn't get them all in. I have lists, so I could someday fill them in, but the farther away I get, the less interest I have in doing it.)

Why are you complicating things?
Add another edition of the same book. That way you can reread as much as you want. You can add 20 editions of the same book if you reread it 20 times. You will have duplicate editions in your read shelf but who cares about that when you can set a start date and end date for every re-read and not screw up your challenge that way as you will by changing the dates on a single edition.

Is this to me? My own shelves are more important to me than challenge tracking, which I really only do so that I can update this thread (and it becomes obsolete when the new thread/new year is started anyway.)

I want to have the "right" editions in my shelves when possible, with the correct format (ebook, kindle, audio, hardcover, paperback) and cover art, and I take the time to pick those out whenever I add a book. Picking random editions to suit the criteria for an automatic tracking mechanism doesn't satisfy the details that *I* want to track for myself.

So in my case, it isn't more complicated, it's just the way I want it to be. Ideally, I would add each individual reread to a list for each book, but ultimately knowing all those dates is not as important to me as the correct cover art. But that is just me; for you and Waylander (and likely everybody else), it probably is not the most satisfying method. I'm just offering it up as an alternative.

No it's not to you, it's in general.
Sadly adding different editions is the only workaround until GR gives an option for re reads. It works and it's the only way to do things if you care about the challenge.
If you dont care about the challenge or tracking books you have read in a particular year than do whatever you want.

Well, I met my original goal. I am going to push it out to a round 100 books for the year.

So far this year I've read one gross of the books I've actually bought. (And a few freebies/loans/gifts as well.)

Unfortunately, I've also bought more than a gross of books this year. But at least I am still well inside my budget.

And staying within your budget is your first battle. I am going for 100 books read this year and I am up to 97, hopefully i will make it.

I'm finally back "on schedule" after a month or so of lagging behind. I attribute this to two factors: First, I'm on holiday this week, part of which was spent in the car road-tripping. Second, I returned to the mid-grade books I had highlighted for 2015. These shorter, and less complicated books, took much less time to read.

I'm now at 126 books read toward a goal of 200 for the year. I'm blowing the top off my pages goal with 36,487 pages toward a goal of 50,000. I'm trying to focus on other goals such as completing a couple of series and reading diverse books.

That's an interesting mixture of american and brittish slang. They talk about being on holiday on the brittish side of the pond while here on the american side we talk about road tripping. You seem to get expressions from both sides of the pond.

Well, I do live in the USA. And we're driving all over the country on our vacation/holiday trips.

No experience on the British side of the pond? I think the term pond comes from John Cleese of Monty Python, don't know how to spell the bloke's last name.

The word "pond" to refer to the Atlantic Ocean goes back to the 17th century.

Lots of experience in England. Which probably accounts for the mixture of American and British slang. In formal writing at work, I pay attention to US vs UK differences (digitise vs digitize or colour vs color) since I'm usually writing for a US audience. In casual writing, like in forums, I just type what "feels" right. And it's just a mix!

Fifty!

Woohoo. Only two more countries to read to finish up my mini-challenges this year.

Bangladesh and Bosnia and Herzegovina appear to be the targets for those.
