Woo Hoo, indeed! Now I'd darn well better buckle down and finish this book! I'm close, but still have 3 chapters due. And I don't think they'll be in by Friday. But maybe by Friday week?

We are family
I got all my sisters with me
We are family
Get up everybody and sing

Everyone can see we're together
As we walk on by
(FLY!) and we fly just like birds of a feather
I won't tell no lie
(ALL!) all of the people around us they say
Can they be that close
Just let me state for the record
We're giving love in a family dose

Good morning, everyone! Happy Thursday! We've a house guest for the next few days. My 'nephew-in-law' has come to visit from Japan! This is is first trip abroad, actually, his first trip outside his home prefecture, and he's been in a state of shock since he landed last night. Big eyes and big grin! He 'thought' he knew what 'spice foods' meant and heartily dug into a plate of what Thais think of when they say 'spicy.' He had to alternate between mouth-fulls of the food and sips of honey to cut the burn. (NOTHING works as well as honey to reduce the pain. MUCH better than milk or yogurt.) Didn't slow him down though!

I'm drinking a mug of unbranded Keemun tea this morning as we wait for him to wake up for breakfast. Today will be a full day of local Chiang Mai sight-seeing, making the rounds of the more important temples and the larger street markets, then tonight we'll visit the "Night Safari," a night-time guided wild animal enclosure and cabaret show. Film at 11.

It's always good to have friends/relatives come in from out of town. You're forced to do those "tourist" things you often don't do when you live in a place. And they're fun! There's a reason they attract tourists. So, by all means, have a good day of sight-seeing.

Having a big glass of Schwepps Club Soda with a twist of orange peel.

I try very had not to lose my sense of 'tourist.' My wife and I are constantly going to the more 'touristy' areas when we are in the mood for fun. I often wonder about the visitors I run into who complain that they don't want to go 'here' or 'there' because they are too 'touristy.' As you say, there is a reason these places get so many visitors. The other places are usually boring!

Tomorrow we will visit an elephant camp, some hill tribe villages (Long Neck Karen, Akha, and Lisu,) wander through several acres of Orchid nurseries, watch a Cobra show, and at night a Cabaret of Ladyboys. Finish off with a good Thai Massage, then plan for the following day!

Good for you, Stitch. I admit, we'd lived in the SF Bay area for years before we got out to Alcatraz. And then only because our friends visited and wanted to go. And if those same friends hadn't visited us here, we'd probably still never have gone up to Skookumchuck Narrows. (Absolutely incredible tidal rapids in a pristine BC park. Worth the walk!)

Another glass of Club Soda.

Peet's Holiday Breakfast Blend tea. But the cup is nearly empty, so I'll be switching to more club soda.

Indeed. A name from the Sechelt, one of the local First Nations. A _lot_ of places around here have First Nations names. Including the town of Sechelt, down the road from here.

In my cup: Lion Mountain Keemun. Which I apparently missed the only chance to buy this year. Sigh.

Unbranded Keemun as we wait for our visitor to arrive for Day Two; Elephant Camp, Hill tribe villages, Cobra shows, Orchid Nurseries, etc., etc.

Many of the US States are named in or for Native American tribes or tribal languages;
Massachusetts, Connecticut, Delaware, Kentucky, Mississippi, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, the Dakotas, Wyoming, Idaho, Iowa, etc., etc., and another bunch given the Spanish names the tribes used. The remainders seem to be named for British Royalty or English cities.
