Good morning, everyone! An important day for all New York Jews... In 1513, the Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de León first sights land in what is now Florida, paving the way for retirement living, 'Early-bird' dinners, and Mall-walking! I'm celebrating this earth-shaking event with a mug of Taylors of Harrogate's "Yorkshire" tea, a visit to the Food Lady, and an early morning ride out into the jungle. It's going to be a great day!

I've only ever known the words to the refrain of that, never the rest of the words. It actually seems pretty inflammatory, I'm surprised it got by the censors of the time who were completely humorless

Seems completely innocuous to me, and I'll bet it did to them too.

Loooong pause. Okay, somewhere I've heard that "a dime" is a term for a serving of some sort of dope. I don't know of any other reference you are seeing in there. Bet the censors didn't either.

Peet's Anniversary Breakfast Blend. This is still from 2014, even though the 2015 is out. But I haven't been down to where I could pick any up yet, and I'm trying to avoid the extra shipping costs to Canada. But I won't hold out much longer if one of us doesn't make a trip down!

Good morning, everyone! Wow! Sooo many musically-misguided souls... if you can call this music 'music.' The "Hand Jive" was a dance particularly associated with music of the 1950s, rhythm and blues in particular. It involves a complicated pattern of hand moves and claps at various parts of the body, following and/or imitating the percussion instruments. It resembles a highly elaborate version of Pat-a-cake. Hand moves include thigh slapping, cross-wrist slapping, fist pounding, hand clapping, and hitch hike moves.

In 1957 when filmmaker Ken Russell was a freelance photographer, he recorded the teenagers of Soho, London hand-jiving in the basement of The Cat's Whisker coffee bar, where the hand-jive was invented. According to an article in the Daily Mirror,[1] "it's so crowded the girls hand-jive to the band as there's no room for dancing." Russell told interviewer Leo Benedictus of The Guardian that "the place was crowded with young kids... the atmosphere was very jolly. Wholesome... everyone jiving with their hands because there was precious little room to do it with their feet... a bizarre sight. The craze fascinated me. It seemed like a strange novelty; I used to join in."

No drugs. No sex. Just groovin' to the beat. And on that note, I'm going to groove on a mug of unbranded Keemun tea, get my kit together for another day at the Chiang Mai Fencing Club, and start my Saturday off in style!

Well, you're not the only one. My memory of hearing that song the first time agreed completely with your take. And ya know? It still does.

Cranberry juice after watching one of the all time best curling matches ever. Norway beat us, 7-6 in extra ends, and they deserved the win. But so did Canada. Really, a beautifully curled game. Even as the ice started to deteriorate at the end they kept making shot after shot after shot.

But now, I'm in the hole and need to put in a couple of solid hours this evening.

Yeah... but I like the way you think.

Just think 'John Travolta' in "Grease" and you can get the hand-jive feeling. It's my belief that this morphed into the fist-bumpin', wrist-slappin' greetings made popular by the black GI's during the early days of the Vietnam War, which then morphed into the Gang-banger handshakes so popular these days.
