If earlier, then all is not lost, you can still use hacks but it will take a little more work. Reread the OP, specifically the red "Even more important notice regarding fw>=5.6.0".

Actually just bought the PW2 from BB yesterday and jailbroke with 1.14.N also yesterday.

Hi!

I just got a Kindle 'touch' gen 7 with FW: 5.6.1.0.6

I would like to Jailbreak it but I am unsure If I have to downgrade my FW and which jailbreak to choose.

So:
1.Do I have to downgrade and if so to what version(guide me)?
2.Which Jailbreak and which version do I choose?
3.Is it possible to brick the kindle and note be able to restore it?

@HerrMuffin: Unless you can open it up and go the serial way, you're out of luck.

But I guess that the serial you mean is not the same?

I can open my kindle since I am used to repairing electronic devices.

Or did you just redact your actual serial number for this post?

You can post the actual **FIRST FOUR** characters safely in public.

If it returns x's as you post -
The board has been changed and/or the firmware altered in some manner.
Return the device, it is useless in that condition.

Hello everybody, I'm the most complete noob who just joined for some assistance.

I bought a Kindle PW2 (I should be right in saying that it's the special offer version) with the FW5.6.1.0.6 from my old Kindle keyboard (r.i.p. it served wonderfully for years). Now, as I had the old device jailbroken I wanted to the same to the new one and clashed against this 126 pages thread about the thing.
Started reading posts from 2012 and I thought that it would maybe be easier to get to buy the next device before to find the post that would solve my problem in such a maze. Would any moderator or informed person be so kind to help me with a link that sends me to the right page of the thread in order to find the solution to the problem?? (if there's any...posts from 2012 didn't leave so many chances to those who wanted to jailbreak the 5.6.1)

Thank you all very much for the effort you put to maintain such communities active.

The 5.5.x/5.6.x firmware has been out for about 6 months, we do have posts on the subject.

Near the top of the index page list, just below the last blue bar ...
Select: PW2 from the drop-down list of models, click: Show Threads.

That might be a better place to start than in this K5 thread.

Hint: Abandon thee all hope unless you want to use the serial port to install the jailbreak file.

That, plus we keep the first post of this thread carefully updated to reflect the latest news on jailbreaking.

Sad to say -- fw5.6.x is still off our radar for vanilla jailbreaking.
