I don't really buy printed books much at all, certainly not novels.
I prefer to read pbooks for tabletop Roleplaying games though.

However, as I have mentioned here before, I managed to acquire nearly 200 scifi and fantasy pbooks off a neighbour who was clearing out his garage.

So lately I've been doing a lot of reading of pbooks.

You have a lot of ereaders!

While I usually read ebooks, it is simply a matter of convenience. Print is fine too.

Ummm, last time I read a book that was not electronic was about two years ago during a longish power outage when all my ereaders were down on battery power.

I find it much easier to read on my tablets or even my phone. I much prefer my tablets to my various models of old ipaq pdas that I used for about 14 years.

I guess I was thinking about this thread when I wrote this in my journal a few minutes ago:

"The physical presence of books"

What I was thinking of was the way noticing or glancing at a book sitting on a shelf, table, desk, or bookcase can trigger various thoughts, creativity, inspiration. Something that is lost by a kindle sitting on the desk with it's hundreds of unseen books.

I just sorted my wall of paperbacks. By Author. Took two days. Haven't sorted within Author yet.

The physical presence of books can be highly overrated...

I've come to prefer my kindle to paperbacks. It's easier to carry and I never run out of reading material.

I think today organizing our calibre library, sorting the tags, checking if an author has new books and getting them etc is the equivalent of managing our physical bookcases but without having to pull out the dust cloths.

I have hundreds of dead trea format books laying around, many of them unread, but I tend to look for epub versions instead. I mainly have a problem with the really big books now (= non-pocket edition). They're so huge and unwieldy...

I was getting frustrated by spending significant time to find a physical book for an ebook I bought so that I could confirm proof-reading corrections.

I haven't bought paper based fiction book for years. I won't either, because of storage implications - it's a firm rule.

That said, i prefer paper for art and cook books, where the photos are critical. I don't think ebooks have quite mastered reference books either, with lots of footnotes, or where you need to flip back and forth quckly.

i have hundreds of paper books (some are hardbacks and many more are paperbacks) that i re-read from time to time, and sometimes a book i want to read either isn't available as an ebook, or else it's so overpriced and the used paperback is so much cheaper that i can't resist. i especially do that when i'm considering a new series and want to start inexpensively to decide if i want to jump in.

I have an entire wall of paper books of many of my favourite books and series. I reread them often.

But I rarely buy paper books any more - instead most new books are ebooks. Actually, most of my reading is in ScribeD.
