Since then, the only movement I've seen is this one from last May: It's not looking good. At least my Clips will play the format. |

Absolutely! 4" screen is perfect for a media player. I love my SGP4.2 it's the perfect size. It has Gingerbread though so it's being left in the dust with all the latest apps.

I love the six inch Fire. I think it is the perfect size.

Reminder -- check out the Black Friday thread. Ads for major stores are starting to drop now and some really good tablet deals are starting to appear; especially for iPads.

For a portable tablet I agree but not for a Media Player. Try carrying it on your armband while doing housework. The smaller the better in this case and the IPod Touch is the perfect size, It just needs to be Android and the latest version.

I'm just curious, because this is the second mention in this thread about needing to be a current version. Why is that? All the apps I use for media playing, like MX Player and Moon+ Reader Pro and jetAudio Plus, etc., work just fine on my Gingerbread (2.3.6) decommissioned phone.
I could use more RAM, but I've never encountered a need for a newer Android version. I rarely play games; is it for that? |

I blame Google with all the changes in KitKat and soon Lollipop it's getting harder and harder for backward compatibility. |

Thanks Blossom.
The Kyocera Vibe (CNET review here) for Virgin Mobile is an 8 GB, 1.5 GB RAM, Kit Kat phone with 4.5" screen (245 ppi), removable battery, and micro SD slot. Also water resistant. It's a Target Black Friday deal for $30, and is currently on sale at Best Buy for $60. |

I have a post in the Black Friday thread listing most of the no-contract phones that'll be on sale. The listing also includes key specs for comparison.

The Nokia Lumia 635 even has an FM radio, for those who want one in their media player (but it only has 512 MB of RAM). |

![]() I love FM radio and listen to it daily at home ![]() Notice how 512MB and 4GB dominate this category of phones? Folks will be much better off with 1GB RAM and 8GB storage. That's why I split the listing up. Tis better to choose from the first list. |

I'm annoyed. When the phone is in the holster, you can't get to the button that wakes it up. There is no other way to wake the phone up. Talk about bad design!
The other thing I ordered, a Radiant no contract phone, has arrived. But I can't do anything with it, yet. It has to charge. The belt holster for that one doesn't block the on button, at least. Phone is charged and works great as a wifi mini Android tablet/media player! I downloaded 2 audio books from Scribd and am listening to one, now. Last edited by booklover6; 11-12-2014 at 02:22 PM. |
