University wifi
I'm trying to connect to my university's wifi (eduroam), but my reader cannot detect the network at all.
I also found this topic, but I do not understand what I should do now: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=208102 Here's the guide for Android on my university's website: http://www.snt.utwente.nl/handleidingen/1/130 What should I do in order to connect to the network? |

Kobo does not include support for 802.1x Enterprise. Sorry.

You're sure there's no workaround?

There might be a way to cheat around this if you have a PC on your university network, as most do. You might set up Connectify Me (Google it) and rebroadcast your own short range WiFi network.
Having suggested this I advise you to first ask around the university's IT department/Local chapter of the society of technomages who wish they employed as much power as the technocrats who proceeded them and see if they have a preferred method and casually ask if Connectify Me might be a way you can get around this... Some universities can be a little "squirrelly" about you broadcasting your own network, but if they don't have an explicit policy against it, you implement decent security, and only have it up long enough for the occasional update there should be no problem, and likely no one would take any notice. Worth a shot. |

Does that mean I would have to turn my laptop on? The nice thing about my ereader is that when I'm in a lecture, I can quickly look things up without needing to turn on my laptop. That is, if I can connect my ereader to the university network.

Yes, you'd need your laptop on to run Connectify Me... Perhaps you can accomplish something similar with the mobile data network from your smartphone... or just look things up on your smartphone, or your laptop. {Am I really writing this, or have the hallucinogens kicked in again?}
Has anyone else noticed the irony between the OP's handle and my avatar? |
