I would not be astonished if this category would win - now.

Personally, I won't support the Christmas theme for my own reasons. However, I equally have no interest whatsoever in the complaint that was raised.

Why not call it Holiday Themes and that could encompass any holiday regardless of when it falls religious or not. That would be OK with me. Last edited by JSWolf; 03-27-2013 at 10:17 AM. |

I think that's an excellent idea, but it's a bit late in the day to implement it for the purposes of this poll. Keep that in mind for next year, though. I'd support it.

It is a good idea and superior to specifying a specific holiday. How about "seasonal" as another option?

At the moment it looks as if Short Stories is going to win, so it probably won't be a problem anyway. |

But seasonal could be religious given the season. For example, it's soon to be Good Friday and Easter. Both religious holidays.
But if we go with Holidays encompassing every holiday, then we cover enough non-religious holidays to make it viable. |

I have never heard of Easter being referred to as a season, although of course it is in reality a spring festival from pagan times, which the Christian church decided to make use of. In the same way, the midwinter festival had the birth of Jesus attached to it.
To me, seasonal refers to the seasons of the year rather than anything religious. Holiday derives from "holy day" and it could be argued that it therefore has more "religious" overtones to it than the word "season". |

No, no, no to all artificial word constructions. The intention of these posters was clear to read Christmas related stories, so please let us call it this way. It really is the best name for it. Jon could have done something constructive and propose Hanukkah related stories himself (I would have found this very interesting too) or something similar or the broad version (religious stories from all over the world).

As I understand it, the Christmas theme definitely stays in the category name if that is the one that wins for December 2013.
The ongoing discussion is just speculation for the future in case someone wants to suggest a similar category at some stage. Personally, I doubt that anyone will bother! |
