Oh, I guess it's using the system's freetype library - and that is probably lacking proper support for bitmap fonts. I guess the workaround is to specify a supported font as default font. Note that this will likely break for old X11 apps that expect some core bitmap fonts to be present. But most current software should work fine. Is that symlink stunt still needed anyway?

That's very helpful info by the way, thank you. I spoiled that section now with a big note in RED. Thanks Hawhill Last edited by twobob; 03-06-2013 at 06:08 AM. |

could we have a Howto?
ie shortest path to viewing RPi on Kindle Touch using X11 remote eg missing bits and what is needed: how to enable tcp for Xorg, where is ssh -X for kindle, how to use Xephyr, and no doubt much more. this is easily the most current and detailed thread found, just expects that one has already had experience of these mysteries best ~:" |

Cross-posting is against the forum guide lines.
Please do not do that. AND you can find the build of ssh that you are looking for attached to post #4 of this very thread. it has been there since last February. Last edited by knc1; 04-20-2013 at 11:07 AM. |

Yes well " HAD-TO-ZIP-TO-GET-ROUND-FORUM-FILESIZE.zip (16.58 MB, 29 views)"
is hardly ideal search material is it? How is anyone supposed to guess what is in this package? you knew, but kept it to yourself. find me the ssh X11 forwarding in clear, and earn a gold star there remains an issue of dependencies, which in my experience can be indeterminate. hence some guidance is helpful... # bin/ssh -X pi@192.168.15.201
OpenSSL version mismatch. Built against 1000103f, you have 1000006f so I guess this huge-bundle may not be suitable for this Kindle Touch as is: # uname -a Linux kindle 2.6.31-rt11-lab126 #1 Tue Jul 17 16:55:47 PDT 2012 armv7l GNU/Linux suitable advice appreciated |

Well I just did a bit of checking and found a great way to find what libraries it is calling (since it appears the ssl lib is the wrong one?):
If you type Code:
export LD_DEBUG=files Then export the libs you need to the kindle once you install ssh through apt-get into the image you create. Good luck - I guess no one else is doing what you want, so when you get it working, post back! Also, Xephyr is a wonderful thing! Also, maybe this would be helpful: optware to turn off the export LD_DEBUG, just set it blank like "export LD_DEBUG=" Last edited by brianinmaine; 04-20-2013 at 08:45 PM. |

It is (usually) a script.
It will list the library(ies) that would be selected for loading after considering all of the dynamic loader's configuration and environmentally settings as-of the moment it is run. When looking for ABI mis-matches (a common cause of seg-faults) the objdump, readelf and nm utilities are a better source of information. Information such as: Code:
core2quad hello $ readelf -a hello | less ELF Header: Magic: 7f 45 4c 46 01 01 01 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 Class: ELF32 Data: 2's complement, little endian Version: 1 (current) OS/ABI: UNIX - System V ABI Version: 0 Type: EXEC (Executable file) Machine: ARM Version: 0x1 Entry point address: 0x838c Start of program headers: 52 (bytes into file) Start of section headers: 2112 (bytes into file) Flags: 0x5000002, has entry point, Version5 EABI Size of this header: 52 (bytes) Size of program headers: 32 (bytes) Number of program headers: 8 Size of section headers: 40 (bytes) Number of section headers: 31 Section header string table index: 28 - - - - - Dynamic section at offset 0x56c contains 25 entries: Tag Type Name/Value 0x00000001 (NEEDED) Shared library: [libgcc_s.so.1] 0x00000001 (NEEDED) Shared library: [libc.so.6] - - - - - Last edited by knc1; 04-20-2013 at 11:22 PM. |

heres a version of ssh with supporting libs, could someone test to see if -X works or not? I don't have a great setup right now to test this. Last edited by brianinmaine; 04-22-2013 at 01:10 AM. |
