Updating htm files
Hi all,
Apologies in advance if i have posted this in the wrong place - i hope not - but this is my first foray here. The question i have is this. I have created my ebooks by importing htm files into calibre. I have then gone all through the associated tweaks and so forth to get it how i want it. So far so good. My problem is this - when i update the source htm file, how do i go about importing that changed file into my library without deleting the existing ebook and starting again. I guess i'm missing something obvious - but it's so obvious i can't work it out. Thanks in advance Gunwoody |

Tweak EPUB (there is a Tweak setting for HTML) You can slide a REPLACEMENT file (exact names and internal ID references must be maintained) into the book and click rebuild. |

You can replace the files belonging to a book, by using the edit metadata dialog (simply click the red book icon to add a new version of a file).

Hi kovidgoyal, thanks for your reply. I have tried that but i just get a duplicate book created. Is there no way of updating the files for existing books without having to go through and reset everything each time.
Thanks Gunwoody |

Book is a collection of 1 or more files (Internally) depending on format. Example: Spoiler:
The top layer (Mobi, EPUB) is just the cover(ing). Are you trying to replace the whole book or a piece of the book??? |

I have a collection of educational legal (English legal system) ebooks (60 in total) all derived from htm files which are imported into Calibre. When something in the text of one of these books changes (some change in the law) i need to replace the htm file for that ebook. I have tried kovidgoyals' suggestion and it does not change the ebook (when previewed) so i wondered if i was missing a stage.
Hope that's a bit clearer Gunwoody |

You certainly should see a change. Did you check what format you were viewing? It is always possible that you were not viewing the format you just converted to.

All that should be left to do is Convert EPUB->Mobi |

The source files (htm files) never change in name so replacing them definately overwrites the old file. However adding that changed file to an 'existing' book still does nothing. If i add the changed htm file as a 'new' book - no problem all the changes show up as you would expect.
I have a feeling that i am missing something 'simple'. Can someone please post the process as they understand it. I have detailed my process below. 1. select the book to be updated 2. click 'edit metadata' 3. click the red book button in the top left 4. browse to the updated htm file and select 5.click ok to exit edit metadata 6. click convert books button and then click ok to resubmit as a job 7 preview changes to book thanks in advance Gunwoody |

This assumes you are only replacing a piece of the whole |
