I've read blog posts of people who get their USA friends to buy the book on their behalf and send it to them.

I have read that it is very easy. The process is suppose to work the same as it does in the US.

Living in the US, you wouldn't think we'd need to do this. But there's certainly ebooks available in the UK that are not available in the US, so a big YES, I'm guilty of faking addresses. Bought about 9 ebooks from the UK that were absolutely not available in the US.

I would if I had to, but I'm lucky in that I have addresses and credit cards in both Canada and the USA.

When I was in law school, I needed a textbook from Amazon.co.uk, which was available as an ebook from ebooks.com, but with UK geo restrictions. In the end I went with the paper copy, but probably wouldn't now. (Too many books, too little room!) |

Wonder when the first author affected by geo-restrictions will write a thank you note in this thread?

Faking your address to get around geo-restriction is not fraud.

The publisher restricts the seller from selling outside of their geo area. If the seller is unwilling to spend the money to enforce these restrictions, it is between the seller and the publisher. As all transactions on the internet take place using electronic payments, the sellers can ensure that they only sell to payers in the right geo areas. |

I can't vote, I don't feel wrong not to cheat with my address, but I don't. It makes me mad not being able to buy a book, but not to the point of cheating. If publishers/authors don't want/need my money, so it's their problem, not mine. I'll read something else

so much books, so little time... The moment publishers/authors will understand that, piracy will drop I think... I read paperbooks before I bought my ereader, and bought them. Now, I buy my ebooks, but, if there is only one or two in a serie available as ebook, I'll read none in the serie, if there are geographical restrictions, I just don't buy : they musn't need my money, that's all...
